Hey,
Just had my first inspection today, (got call on Monday), she arrived at 10.13 and went at 11.55 as I had Nursery pick. She was rushing to go through everything and then said she would give feedback over the phone, but she hasn't called tonight. :(

I registered in July, but have been working in Early Years and I am qualified primary school teacher. I have worked really hard on the children's folders and activities planned. I had done all the risk assessments, Policies and Procedures, permission slips, accident book filled in, safeguarding procedures explained. I don't feel I got a chance. She already had a mind set of me being only just registers and expected for me not to have much paperwork for her to look at and thought she could fit me in. I did get a good with outstanding elements but still haven't feedback, so I am not sure how I feel about it.

She was nice enough but felt afterwards she didn't ask enough or show that much interested in children's folders, didn't even look at the scrapbooks which have loads of work in,, I did try to show as much as possible and sign post her to different areas. Main thing I think that may have made it

Has anyone else experienced being sqished into a set time.

THank you Rowan xxx

I don't have personal experience of this- but the time the inspector spent at yours is not that short of the 2 hours that they quote as an average.

I can only assume that she felt she had enough evidence - because if not she would have either come on the nursery run with you - or sat in her car looking at documents.

Wait for feedback - and then your written report to see what she did note.

I have to say though thast just about every report only gives a 'snap shot' and does not reflect everything that happens / is seen in a setting.

Oh and well done on your grading

Penny :)

Yes its true and I am thinking back and don't think I gave the best answers so all is good. I am not great at blowing my own trumpet, so think SEF would have helped.

Also had one child who was 17months and we always go to groups, or have other children around so felt very different.

I realise this is the time frame, just felt such a rush to her check all the documents etc and I had to get ready and go so she was kind of kicked out. It was only as I had expected it to feel more like an interview but guess she didn't feel like she needed to know much more than what she asked.

Thank you for your reply, and am happy with my grade but more importantly parents wrote glowing letters and children enjoy coming, can't ask for more! So am happy with how it went.

Just felt a little strange ending especially since I was expecting a call last night.

Having a restful day and Christmas so thats good news. :clapping: :clapping:

It sounds as if you did really well getting all your paperwork organised and that she could see enough in the couple of hours she was with you to give you your grade. Don't worry about it!

Congratulations! :clapping:

It is great to get good with outstanding elements in your first inspection. Many of our members get satisfactory until they have a secure SEF and systems in place to support a higher grade.

It's odd that your inspector rushed and left when you went for a pick up. Mine sat in her car while we went to school then came back in for the after school session to continue her observations.

Well done... focus on the positives :clapping:

Yes I know from reading up on here I expected her to come and wait for me, but I know from the phone call that she definitely had other appointments and wanted to squeeze me in.

Thanks to this forum then I was able to prepare most of paperwork, only had just started SEF but this in ongoing, not easy to do minute, I think unless you are experienced at it maybe. :)

I have really only been Childminding for a 3 months, had 2 in the summer part time but this was more summer holiday fun day trips so hadn't really put all systems in place.

Yes positive, positive and more positive thoughts :jump for joy:

Thanks for your comments.
