Hi, quick advice needed as I'm meeting mum soon.

I have got a baby starting soon. Should the bottles be ready made up or I we allowed to add the pre-measured formula into the pre-sterile bottle.

Not sure what the protocol is.

Thanks

Bex

Sterile bottle with water and powder separate - heat the water, add the powder, shake, test and serve :D

According to current guidelines:

Fresh water into kettle, boil and leave for half an hour (so it goes down to around 70 degrees C ). Pour water into pre sterilised bottle and add baby milk as per instructions on tin. Shake and chill to required temp. Do not keep for more than one hour after being made up.

The baby formula milk is not sterile which is why we are not being told to do it this way.

I had a big argument with ofsted over this as mindees parents chose to make up bottles ....both tested baby products as a living.....doctors.....Mrs O was not happy and wrote a negative comment in report.....I had enviromental health parents write to them and got it removed! BUT I have since changed policy and have them bring in sterilised bottles, water and powder in despenser it's less hassle! lol
