Does anyone know if OFSTED have any specific rules/legislation/standards relating to what pets can be kept? If OFSTED do, can you link me to the page I need please (if you know where to find it). I've searched the OFSTED site, but it's not the most easily navigated site, and I've turned up nothing.
Thank you in advance to anyone who can help.

I have 2 german shepherd dogs and bugie and fish and ofsted never said anything when i was inspected. As long as you have a pet policy in place i dont think its a problem. My dogs have a seperate run in the garden so the children dont really come into contact with them but i know other cms who have dogs and cats in the house all the time with the mindes present.:)

lol - not a doggy I'm planning on getting  .
I'm thinking though that since the kids have access to your doggies, and they will not have access to my pets at all, and they won't be living in a registered part of the house, that with a full and thorough risk assessment in place, and good procedures and considerations in place then OFSTED should equally have no issues with others animals. :)

Now you've got me wondering just what sort of pet you're thinking of getting! :D
When my son lived at home he had a snake which he kept in his bedroom - the room was registered but Mrs O declined my offer to see it  I'm sure you'll be fine!

A friend of mine has snakes, as far as I know she just had to have risk assessments. If whatever you are thinking of getting is not going to be in a registered part of the house I wouldn't have thought it a problem. Just out of curiosity what on earth are you thinking of getting??

hehe, snakes. Miffy and Playmate, what types of snakes did your son, does your friend keep?
So glad to hear what you both just said :)

Sorry haven't got a clue, because I won't even enter her house
She told me the other day they had fed their snake a rabbit and then the smell for the next week until it was out of its system was unbelievable :panic: Personally I'm not a pet person, got enough to look after with the children :D

Ours was a corn snake - not poisonous and quite pretty really as snakes go.
But the woman in the shop said it would only grow to a couple of feet and, trusting soul that I am, I believed her - so be warned!

haha, they get sooooo big. It's a choice at the moment between a ball python or a corn snake. Been offered a corn snake with set-up so we are likely to go down that route.
We did look into a garter but because of where we live, and the small size of our house, getting or rearing enough live food for him would have been very difficult.

When my son was younger he had 2 corn snakes that had babies!! corn snakes are good to gain experience on, they are placid and you can get some very nice colours, underneath they have a pattern that looks like piano keys! AND you dont have to feed them rabbits???:panic:
My son had a 5ft corn snake until recently. Mrs O didn't mind at all. His room was registered and the vivarium had a lock. Now he's at uni the snake was sold. They make great pets. Enjoy!!
