Well it was 10 months overdue (last inspection Nov 07) and during that time I'd been working hard with the children, my own children, the EYFS had come in.

I'm pleased to say I got an outstanding and still in a state of shock really. Not that I got it, but because the build-up to an inspection is so mentally and physically draining, and because we worry about this and that.

Hi Trudy - she arrived at around 10.15am and left at 1.20 so 3 hours.

I would say it is hard to get an outstanding. Never for one moment did I think I would as I've also heard how hard it it. My last two inspections were goods so I was hoping to get this. But I know I work hard, do all the paperwork, mandatory things anyway, have lots of resources i.e. toys, books, puzzles, a well equipped outdoor space, the list goes on.

Even so, on the day I sung to the children, got on the floor with them to play, fed them, changed nappies, interacted with them in the garden with the sand, chalkboard, cars, playhouse etc. (all things I do anyway).

She said my paperwork was excellent (I keep a daily diary, lots of photos, photos of the kids doing an activity and then putting the finished product in their folder).

She said that I was meeting the needs of the three children I look after very well and this showed in my enthusiasm with them and the way they enjoyed being with me.

Completing my SEF and partnership with parents was important too.

Thanks again everybody!

I've done risk assessments for my home, garden, toddler groups, parks, and outings.

My co-ordinator came round in June and advised me to elaborate a bit on my parks one but I felt I'd done enough and I didn't get round to adding anything.

The inspector did look through all of them and the fact that I'd signed and dated them helped.

She said they were fine and most of mine are hand-written anyway - not like my co-ordinators who are all done on the computer.

Another thing she spent a while asking about was my accident/incident book and whether I recorded all accidents and existing accidents. I do this anyway and explained that sometimes parents moan a bit if their child comes with a big bump/bruise and I have to put it in my book. Also the sickness policy was important to her and I explained that I always refer to this for the sake of my own family too and the other way around (if my family are ill).
