I don't want to alarm anyone but I wondered if anyone else has received the Ofsted Updates this week?
I am especially interested in the fee structure that should already be in place.
It states that if we are working over 45 weeks of the year, work 5 days or more a week and 3 hours or more per day then our fees should be £220.00. Whilst they don't implement this, they could do.
I have asked NCMA their opinion.

I read that and panicked at first but it is not for CM - still £35. I paid mine yesterday

I don't think we need to worry because (as Blueboy found out recently) most of us are not childcare providers - it is a bit confusing but in Ofsted terms you are not a childcare provider unless you are a childminder working with 3 or more assistants.
In Ofsted eyes we are childminders.
If I hear otherwise I will let you know
Penny :)

I hope so as I think most of us come under that criteria and with it in writing they could change it at any time.
I have written to NCMA and await Tim's views

Maybe its Ofsteds way of saying that Childminding is Home Based Childcare and not sudo-nursery where people want to ever increase numbers and have several Assistants. If they want to run this kind of business then they have to pay the higher fees?

Hi Debbie
I am sure NCMA will respond with reassurance as I do know the difference as facts - because it came upo when I was still with LA and we sought clarification.
I refer to the Ofsted document http://www.ofsted.gov.uk/resources/guide-registration-early-years-register-childminder
and quote the following bits from the document to demonstrate the difference between childminder and childcare provider
Childminder
A person who is registered to look after one or more children to whom they are not related on domestic premises for reward.
Childminders work with no more than two other childminders or assistants.
Childcare providers on domestic premises
People providing care on domestic premises with at least three other people.
The difference between childminding and childcare on domestic premises is the number of people involved. If four or more people look after children at any time, they are providing childcare on domestic premises, not childminding.
I hope this provides the reassurance needed
Penny :)

It has the fee separately for childminders - £35.
If you work with 3 or more assistants/other childminders you are classed as a childcare provider on domestic premises, so wouldn't be classed as a childminder anyway.

Phew - Penny was right and even though we are based in a domestic premises we are just childminders - once advantage, a lower fee
