Did you know that as a childminder, you are not a childcare provider?

Blueboy phoned them this morning with a couple of queries we had about filling in a CM2 form and he was told this  So if we are not providing childcare what on earth are we all doing? ;)

Whatever next! :panic:

I wonder what I have been doing all day with a 1yr old, a 2yr old and a 4yr old??? They don't belong to me and I fed them, took them out, changed their nappies, provided play opportunities gave them cuddles. Was that not caring for them

In the words of Max Bygraves (for those old enough to remember him:panic: ) "I want to tell you a story".
As Playmate has said I had to ring Ofsted this morning for some clarification on a couple of sections on a EY2 form to obtain a CRB and register an assistant. The section in question was listed as Childcare provider on domestid or non-domestic premises. I was not sure if or how this section should be completed. The lady on the phone advised that we didn't have to because we are not Childcare providers. When I questioned this saying that I work in my own house which to me is a domestic premises once again she said I was not childcare provider I was a childminder. I questioned this statement but got just the same answer.
Don't know what I am now:(
This may be brought to NCMA's attention when I attend the AGM in September.

Ah Mick you are not a childcare provider - because you do not have enough assistants!

You see a 'proper' childcare provider does not have to be able to multi task and or a master of all trades - where as of course a childminder does. A childcare provide - so a childminder working with 3 or more other people or a nursery - share the tasks - never have to do everything and can pass the buck when things get difficult to one of the other people.

I would take it as a compliment - you are a childminder - clearly a more qualified person than a mere childcare provider :D
