Its my first inspection tomorrow and I am so lost now :o( I can't seem to remember all the welfare requirements! Do I have to know them all off by heart, or just know enough so that I understand why they are there?

I think all my policies are up to date and I have all my paperwork ready for her to see. Am just so nervous I am making myself sick :o(

Just wanting tomorrow to be over

Please don't panic - I would be hard pressed to remember them all off by heart - yes have an overview - but not word perfect.

Ofsted will not expect you to be word perfect.

Make sure you are able to explain about safeguarding, how you risk assess and about the EYFS learning and development requirements - and how you record each childs development and next steps.

I know from your previous post that the children are new and so you have no records yet - so make sure you can explain what you plan to do.

The best plan is just to be yourself - talk out loud about what you are doing - I spoke as if to the children - knowing Mrs O could hear.

I know it is hard but try not to panic (even though most of us do)

Good Luck

Penny :)

Penny, thanks loads for your reply. :) I am trying to stay calm!

Was just wondering, what do people do about making Mrs O a drink? I have no problem with getting her something, but what do you do about it being in another room? I don't worry about my own daughter as she obviously lives here and I know what she can do, it's just that while these mindees can walk it is a new place for them and I didn't really want to leave them on their own while I go to the kitchen? I do have a monitor but am not sure if this would be ok?

Thanks X x X

Judge it on the day - see how the children are - they may get distressed if you leave the room.

I usually offer a drink - but usually it is declined. If you do offer and it is accepted - remember your own 'rules' about hot drinks.

Yes she came yesterday and it is all over!!

She really loved the playroom and the toys I have saying that I have covered all the areas of learning. I just need to work more on the welfare points. I got picked up on some dust on the skirting board in the toilet and was so ashamed as I didn't clean it :( Thinking that now I do need a cleaner as this is my business and I don't have the time to do everything.

She said that I should get a good, but couldn't make it an outstanding because the kids were new and obviously no planning or LJ. She said she would be upset if I didn't get it next time!

I am more than ok with this!!! I passed!! Am going to work so hard now and prove that I can get the outstanding in 3 years!!

Thanks loads for all your help! I changed the Ofsted poster as well, though she said that she wouldn't have marked me down on it as she only just found out. That is bad that they don't tell the inspectors!!

Good luck for every one else having an inspection soon! X x X

Some dust on the skirting board???? They would have a field day in my house. I like to spend time looking after the children not eradicating every speck of dust:laughing:

Well done! Sounds like you should be really proud of yourself:thumbsup:

Oh well done Pinkfairy24 - I bet you are glad it is over. Relax now and get on with settling those children and enjoying the job.

As too dust - my inspector clearly had bad eyesight and could not see the dust, the sticky finger marks every where and the dogs hairs in the far corners where the vaccum does not reach

Well done on getting through your inspection :clapping:

As for her spotting some dust on a skirting board - I think that is a bit harsh - when I did my training they said to not worry about being too tidy or too spic and span, as Ofsted would question why things were sooooo tidy n clean when you should be looking after the children. A case of damned if you do and damned if you don't I think!!

Well done to you anyway

Thanks everyone! Am chilling out now! I don't have any mindees on a Friday which is great as I take my daughter swimming :) She loves it, we have been since she was 6 months old and she is now almost 18 months so I won't give up on it! The leisure centre is only 10 minutes away so I have no excuse.

Good luck to anyone else having an inspection soon and please don't worry about the dust. I would rather spend time playing with the children which is what I am being paid to do after all!!
