Do i need to do the briefing session or can i contact ofsted on my own free will?? thanks for your help x

You need to go through your local council - try the sure start centre for a childminding coordinator.
You are legally required to do a course and they will have all the information.

Although I would not recommend doing so - you can down load the application form and fill in and send to Ofsted (this has been the case since 2010)
However most local authorities have their own requirements to meet the locally set quality standards/ criteria and some times by going through them you can access subsidised training or or some funding or a start up package. If you don't go to the briefing session - you won't know.
You will also pick up a lot of information at the briefing session - and get to know who it is you need to contact for advise and support.

Oh and forgot to say - you will still need to have first aid in place before registration and complete the introductory course (different to briefing) within 6 months of registration.
