Hi, I am pre-reg and thinking about how to make the house etc safe for minding.
My garden has a patio with a long step down and there are other steps, including a big raised slab of concrete where a brick shed used to be. They are all trip hazards but I can't see how I can make them safe in terms of fences as you wouldn't be able to get around the garden, not to mention the expense. It wasn't a problem with my little girl as she was never unsupervised in the garden.

Does anyone think the pre-reg ofsted inspector will have a problem with this?
Any suggestions?

Thanks :)

Tough one for me, I was in a similar position to you.

On my pre reg inspection mrs O wanted to know what I would do if a lo tripped or slipped on a paving slab, I have huge sheets of York stone down. I told her I'd pick them up and rub them down just as I would if they'd fell out on the pavement. None of the gaps were taller than a 50p (which is the standard compo measurement) I'd suggest a coloured tape around the edge of your high slab, this will make it more visible.

Just make sure you risk asses it well, you've identified the risks and keeping a close eye on children around that area, not leaving them unsupervised ect is all IMO appropriate steps.

Thanks Kells_bells, that's a great idea. Or perhaps I could paint the edge of the step.

And yes, I suppose apart from that and risk assessments there's not much else I can do.

Thanks again.
