Well Mrs O has been and gone....and I got a good!!! I was thrilled with this as I have only been minding since Dec and have had 7 weeks hols since then.(mum is a teacher so no littlys in the hols and I had all of April off to go to India)
She was really lovely and was very chatty...she talked to the mindees and interacted with them...even though I'd been told she wouldn't by someone who had her a few weeks ago.
I thought I'd share my experieince with anyone who is due an inspection soon.....its really not as bad as you imagine it is gonna be.. before she started she did say standards had gone up in the latest round of inspection but not too worry
She asked about safeguarding and did I know what to look for (signs of abuse) did I have a policy and what would I do if I suspected abuse
She asked how I manage behaviour and said latest thinking is not to use a naughty step but to encourage positive behaviour
She was keen to know about how i promoted healthy eating and good hygeine.. LO (3)was a star!! as soon as I mentioned washing our hands she launched into a fab tale of how we do it and how she has her own towel upstairs and all about bad germs and good germs...Mrs O was LOL at how good she was
The only thing she wanted to see more of was partnerships with parents...LO is at nursery 10 miles away and i have little contact..she also said parents could maybe write in the LJ a bit more., and she wanted me to evidence more how next steps were followed through she suggested I go back to obs and add on the bottom (eg if I have said I will provide LO with mirrors to encourage sense of self I need to go back when its done and write on the ob...""see next ob and a date I did it"") hope that makes sense??
Both the LO's were great....baby even went off for a nap in the cot without a murmur(usually screams his head off) and H stuck the nose and ears on her papaer plate pigs face (we did the messy painty bit yesterday)
I am relieved its over now and i can relax...specially after the last couple of weeks (my mum died may 13th and I had to cancel two previous visits)

one other thing she did say was ofsted aren't looking too much now for a lot of planning paperwork....she said in the past that was how it was done...yearly monthly weekly etc....she said now they want to see more written evidence of how you develop next steps and follow them through to encourage childrens learning ...althoough she did say planning was OK in principle

Really well done, and thanks for posting this as well. I am a new childminder and am currently panicing about my planning. I have a 10 month old and a 20 months old as well as my own 10 month old (am registered for 2 under 1's) and I cant get my head round the planning for them at all so its really helped to hear your feedback on the planning. Just need to get my head round obs then! lol
