I was expecting a new mindee t start in about 3 weeks but mum has just emailed to say her crb came through quicker than she expected and her new job wants her to start monday

anyway ive been caught off guard and the situation is that she will require me any 3 to 4 days per week , usually times between 10 and 2, but days varying week on week , as both her and husband work shifts

What this actually means for me is if they need me on a wednesday that puts me over for one and a half hours between 11.30 and 1pm

I would have 4 children which is fine because i can have 5

but they will be
12 months
15 months
15 months
4 years

Have i left it too late to get a variation , as its for such a short period of time would they grant it over the phone temporarily until i can get the forms sorted

Two of the under 2s are term time only and the 4 year old start school in sept and leaves me anyway , so I cant really afford to lose this one

literally this would be for 6 wednesdays ,between now and summer hols assuming they needed me every wednesday , for 1 and a half hours

anyone been granted something like this quickly ?

I say do it. You would be daft not to, espesially if you may loose the child otherwise. Ring Ofsted first, and be honest. I bet this happens all the time. Good luck. xx:)

Have you told mum you can start on Monday?

You can't get in touch with Ofsted before then anyway and I wouldn't advise you to risk going over your numbers - you would be breaking your registration and that would also mean you wouldn't be insured.

Ofsted can process variations quickly so you could phone on Monday and see what they say - it can all be done by e-mail if they agree.

Miffy xx

I found the form quite easy to fill-in. If you phone they will send you one within 10 minutes. I sent it off to them at 7pm on Thursday and had a phone call at 8:30 the next morning to say it had been granted. I marked the email urgent. My variation was only for 3 particular days when an existing child needed extra care. I'm not sure how it works for new business unless it's a sibling.

To be honest it was only after I said next week is fine that i realised about the hour and a half

im ringing first thing monday and will just have to see what the say

if they say no , there is another optio i have considered

my neighbour is also a childminder , what if she came round for the hour and a half , do you think OFSTED would agree to that

she only has one mindee at the moment

They would prod agree with that. If not, could your friend not help you out for the short term? Ring them ASAP. Good luck. x

You will need a variation on your certificate that says "while working with another childminder at the above address" for that :)

possibly one of the parents would agree to their child being looked after by my neighbour for a couple of hours, she already knows some of the children and it would only be once a week for 6 weeks maximum

that would probably be easier than applying for a variation that i may not get and if i did only need for the short term anyway

thankyou

must remember not to get myself into a mess like this again
nothing is ever simple:panic:

I would contact Ofsted first thing Monday and ask the question - sounds like you are going to need a permanent overlap anyway for this child
