I have my forms all filled in and ready to go. Doctors report done. Two weeks into the seven week childminding course and all policies and risk assessments written up, so feeling pretty confident that I will be able to answer all of their questions. I have my First Aid course booked for next month. My only thing that is holding me back is that
1) We have a crazy paved path along one side of our back garden which is quite uneven and I think I will remove and put down turf instead, but we can't afford to do it for a good few weeks yet.
2) I want to lay a new kitchen floor as the old one is looking a bit .. well, old.
So I was wondering if I had to have these things done before they came round to do the initial registration or, would it be good enough for me to say ... I am going to remove this path before I actually start childminding any children. I intend to do it within the next month.
So .. basically, does the house need to be perfect BEFORE you register or is it enough to say .. these are the changes that will be made before I mind.

Thank you for any advice!

No, you don't need to do it beforehand. Just make sure you risk assess them and tell Ofsted of your plans and also what you would do whilst working and the work being carried out so they can see that you have thought ahead about this and that the children's safety is paramount.
Good luck.
