I have sent my CRB forms on the 21/4/2010
Stage 1 - completed 05/01/11
Stage 2- completed 05/01/11
Stage 3- completed 05/01/11
Stage 4 - NOT STARTED
I call every week and sometimes twice a week and nothing.....
Sent my husband applicatio on the same day and came back 2 weeks ago
I have been having lots of enquires and turned down because I cant predicted when I will be able to open for business
I am losting all the drive and enthusiasm and even looking at other options
Funny thing is - there are lots od unregistered women working in my area and I have parents asking me to work even though I dont have my certificate yet, would be so easy for me to be earning money right now but I want to do things legally and that is what I got.
Now I understand why people go illegaly.

That is completely outrageous!!! Waiting nearly a year for a CRB form to come back as completed is so unacceptable, I am shocked!!! You say you have phoned them constantly, maybe it's time to make a formal complaint!!! Have Ofsted got involved?

Why did it take them from April 2010 until January this year to make a start on your CRB?? Surely they should have made a start on stage 1 with a few days if not weeks, at the most, of receiving it!

have you rung your local police head quarters..this happened to me...stuck on stage 4 for ages.....a phone call resulted in the certificate arriving a week later...also I was told that ofsted can speed things up if you wait more than 60 days?? have you asked about this??

SO SORRY I sent the application on 21/DECEMBER/2010 not April...
If it was one year waiting I would have given up long ago...

Email your local MP explaining your problem. We had to do this and unbelievably the CRB arrived very quickly!
When we spoke to CRB they said that if they get a letter from an MP they have to act immediately, so do the police holding the information and not completing stage 4!
Good luck, let's hope you get it sorted very quickly, keeping everything crossed for you!

So I can phone the police head quarters than? Because the CRB people told me there is no toher phone I can call and I cant call the police. Local Police head quarters would be in my authority, council??
Other good idea contacting my MP will do asap>

Ofsted tried to escalate my dh CRB, although all they can do, is send a letter to the police every 10 days, the letter then sits in an in-tray somewhere!
Definitely call your local police on a daily basis to chase it up. Keep pestering them.

I rang my Police disclosures dept when I was waiting for mine, and they told me there was nothing they could do, they couldn't discuss my CRB application with me and that Ofsted would have to phone them. This despite me saying I didn't want to discuss it with them, I wanted them to take my details FROM me and process it

Hi,
Mine took 4 months as well, I called CRB and they were able to tell me which police station my CRB had been sent to then I called them up and they sorted it out on the same day. I received it a couple of days later.

I'm afraid it's not uncommon for it to take ages - some areas are quicker than others. I phoned the police repeatedly and was always very polite, and keeping my cool did pay off, they did push mine through so I wasn't waiting longer than they promised. If you have moved around the county a lot this can slow things down as it may need to be checked in different areas. I'm afraid there seems to be very little you can do about it but keep on pushing them and try to keep calm, good luck.
