Well she seemed nice, and came in immediately said to always put the children first she primarily would look through my stuff and just watch!

She then asked about the next steps i had identified for two of the three children who were here, before she looked at anything.

She asked about 'Celebrating other cultures and religions' I told her we explored them and the kind of things we did, as this satisfied the parents of other religions and those from other cultures that wanted an 'english' setting.

She asked about special needs, our experience etc and it was okay for me to say that we would not take a child with a physical disability requiring us to carry him upstairs for toileting as we considered this unsafe for them, us and the other children in our care. this too was acceptable.

She loved the learning journeys said they were a pleasure to see, loved the individual progression sheets and could see this linked to planning and came from observations, and at this point i have to say what treasures the kids were because with no prompting or anything all three of them followed the next steps, observations and couldnt have worked better if i had tried or bribed them!!!

She said RA's were well thought out, very detailed and covered everything needed, I did say that i did not believe in going to extremes with RA's as they show i had thought about things but didnt want to lose the ability to think on my feet and cope in any unexpected situation because i had been conditioned to pieces of paper.

She did not check first aid kits/cleaning or kitchen equipment or ask about my hygiene practices. She did see me do two poo nappies and serve lunch and snack and have garden play and deal with a child driving his toy car into another who bumped his head. I did not wear gloves or an apron!!

And i only used the sink downstairs and she made no comments whatsoever, she also saw me take a toy that one dog walked off with and put it in the kitchen for cleaning later, i did say that if a child wanted to play with it i would have washed it straightaway, but if it wasnt being played with i just left it for later, just in case there were others!

She asked if the dogs went in the garden too and i said yes, she could see that they could not be separated anyway out there, and i said that sometimes the kids/dogs were separated and sometimes together depending on the kids and dogs behaviour at the time, this also must have been fine.

What will be my only recommendation is to try even harder to get info from the one nursery we deal with, because i said that i get the child to say what he has done with my help, but the majority of the feedback is please can you ask mum again for x y and z that the child doesnt turn up with, so they had very little time for anything else, although i expect even with more time, unless we can see them doing it like forest walks and number work etc then we are not told. So she said as she had to put something she would do this and from what i gather this is the only area where we got a good, not an O, but who knows what they will put in writing eventually (friends took 4 months to come!!!!)

Hope this helps anyone else, cant think of much more, but I had done my sef and gave a brief explanation of where she could find some bits, she looked at my portfolio after asking where i kept my crb checks and about over 16's in the house. We joked about my husbands mental age not requiring one!!!!!

Sounds like it went well - well done

From what you are saying you got all outstandings and one good?

I had my inspection 2 weeks ago and got a phone call a few days later to ask my email address so that they could email to me and I had 24hours to respond.

I think that is what she said, but to be honest i kept trying to talk her down with it, cos i was a little shell shocked and it sounds really odd, but i was so prepared to be good (as long as not satisfactory as i told her i would have resigned my registration there and then!), so i am not 100% sure what is going to be put in it!!!

That is brillant well done to you

Also thanks for your brilliant feedback proving that once again you just have to be yourself and " normal " no over the top things that scare other minders half to death

Well done to you :clapping: :clapping:

It sounds like another Outstanding for Herts. One of the miners here got Outstanding on Mon. The inspectors are (14of them  ) staying in a hotel in Watford this week and blitzing the area.

I am gutted, I was supposed to be inspected today or Friday. My daughter woke up on Mon morning throwing up so I rang and told Prospect, then on Tuesday I haven't had V & D but had a very odd tummy and headache and felt spaced out so rang again. The inspector (the one who gave my friend os) rang last night and has postponed the inspection, just said to get well and not worry about it, so nice. I guess she must have had me booked in for today not Friday.

Now I have no idea when it will be done becuse the team she was on leave the area on Friday. I was gutted, but just as well because my son has got what I have now :panic:

I think we got it from a mindee who last Wed at the end of the day did the most indiscribable nappy, I have never seen one sooo bad poor thing. Mopped him up and he was fine and the 30 mins later just as mum walked through the door he threw up everywhere  bless him he has beeen so ill. His mum has had what I have had.

It s a very strange feeling in Herts at the moment, I only know 3 other minders who aren't being inspected this week (we were all done last year). I keep getting phone calls to help people with last minute check lists! I think I might set up an Ofsted inspection help line and charge for the service  either that or change my number
Good luck for when they do call back (not that you need it!) Did your friend and mine get inspected?

You are joking!! Not even a call. I was only 2mths overdue and she is now a year. Its mad isn't it?

Yes I wish I could have been done this week the inspector sounded lovely and one of our group got outstanding in all areas so I was in with a chance. Never mind. I can polish my Sef now!

I saw Rosie last night and she thinks HQS will def continue and so I can go for that. It will changed though because now there is no NCMA they won't have the same time for observations etc

What are the individual progression sheets that you use? Would love to see what your learning journeys are like.....I've recently started a new one but just can't seem to find a way to make them look really good!! :(

I know one who is being done one afternoon wed/thur or fri this week and one who is being done tomorrow morning both with the drafted in inspectors, who without wishing to be rude seem nicer than our local pernickity lot!

I expect the one tom a.m. to get an outstanding as has had previously, but not too sure about the p.m. one.

I am even more determined to get rich and move to the west country, she was so normally nice that ours round here are a jobsworth lot! Two in particular cause untold grief to everybody they come across!

Take that back heard one of the other ones was an over penickity oger!

Have had feedback over the one that i thought would get 'O' but got a good, and some of the things she was picked up on the person never even mentioned to me or asked about or looked for, makes a bit of a mockery really of the whole thing.

One thing in particular is a real worry about what she was told, compared to what a lot of minders i know do and i do but was not even looked at or queried with regards to what i had for emergency contact details.

how did the RA for the dogs go down?

She never commented on it individually, but said my whole approach to my risk assessments showed that i had considered seriously and effectively how i approached everything and they were very concise and precise!

I was really nervous about my risk assessments, cos they are like no other i have seen and i really struggle with other ways so just did what i knew i could manage and was not at all sure the format was thorough enough!

I did say that i had not worked to the point of being rediculous with them because i did not want to take away the ability to think on my feet and only be able to work from a set procedure on the paper, i feel it is important to not lose the ability to constantly risk assess and apply this sensibly on the spur of the moment.

She said my whole approach to paperwork left little to doubt and parents could be very clear of what I did, how i do it and what is expected, which is my OCD!!!
