hi i am after some advice, I have just had my inspection and the odsted lady only judged me on the eyfs, I only childmind before and after school, and i dont do planning or profiles, and she said that im inadequate,
the children on the early years are only in my car for 1/2 hour before nusery and 2 hours after nusery, 2 days a week.
what can i do, is there a way that i dont have to do profiles, I know eyfs backwards as I work at a nursery 9-3 and do profiles and planning, some one please help!

Hi hun,

If they are with you for 2 hours after nursery 2 days a week you could do some obs and next steps and make them both a learning journey even if its a small one each. You should be following the eyfs no matter how long the children are with you really.:)

Agree - you should be doing planning and profiles - but remember - should compliment what they do in nursery and show that they have a balance curriculum across all the settings that they attend.

links with the nursery setting as much as possible could show how you are working alongside them to offer EYFS in your care.
small obs, next steps would also be good as 2 hours is enough time for a catch up of what they know.

She is likely to have given you some actions to bring you up to a satisfactory grade - theres no way round it Im afraid we all have to follow the eyfs regardless of how long the children are with us. daily routine , continuous provision and following personal interests will be plenty to cover what you need - no need for major theme planning or similar.

i agree with what has already been said that no matter how long they are with you you will need some evidence of what you are doing with them - even just a simple basic planning and ob type thing.

I used to care for a child who was with me for an hour before school. She was booked in at 8am but often wasn't there until 8.10 and we then left the house at 8.20 and walked to school. She was with me in the holidays from 8 - 3 which made it a bit easier for me. But I didn't do masses then as it was only three days a week.

I had evidence of how I worked with the school and was lucky as they sent a sheet by email to me most weeks of what they were covering that week (the same as the one that went home to parents) and I tried to incorporate something from that in the 10 mins before school or on the walk to school and evidenced that on the back of the sheet.

I am concerned that your development Officer hasn't picked up that you weren't covering the EYFS at all when you should have been. in our area if you are due your inspection (based on when you last had one I think) they come and visit to check you are doing all you should be I think.

Wait for your report to come through, then go through the actions and put things in order.

I agree with the others you will need to implement EYFS
