Had my first inspection today. She came at 9, left at 11 and told me I was Good :clapping: .
I couldn't have got through it without the support from here. It wasn't anything as bad as I had imagined it to be.
I would say to anyone, who's got Ofsted due complete your SEF and put as much information in it as you can even if your not sure its in the right place put it in so they can get an idea about everything before they come. From your SEF if you find any actions/things to do, try to put them in place before they come. Mrs O was very impressed that the actions I gave myself in my SEF I had already put in place.
Safeguarding - asked what i would do if I suspected abuse, if, when and who I would contact and if i felt confident in not letting a child go home if I felt there was a risk to them.
How I involve parents in their childs learning and how I evidence this.
She checked all my permissions and that I had details on who has parental responsibility and asked if I felt confident in keeping the child in my care if someone without parental responsibilty came to collect the child and they didn't have permission.
Checked that i took emergency information details/permission on each child on all outings from Library to Zoo etc.
How I promote Equality and Diversity.
Risk assessments - make sure they are signed, dated and have a review date on.
She liked that the planning i do is around the individual children and not all grouped together and that i follow their interests and not topics.
also I got the sense that the more natural resources the better. She loved the heuristic corner we have and the mini cooking set which is real pans and frying pans but smaller and mini metal utensils ( all small because they're for camping )
It's true what everyone says it isn't as scarey as you think. She was really nice and put me at ease straight away. But i am glad it's over and I don't have to go through it again for at least 3 years although she did say they don't yet know whats happening with the inspections after 2012 and when they will take place because the EYFS is currently being reviewed.
