OMG - Panic Panic Panic -

It appears that our county is about to be blitzed by a coach load of ofsted inspectors and I thought that I had 2 mths to get my house and garden in order ready for the visit - financially and time wise I just cant get all the things I wanted to have in place ready in the next week or so GGGGGRRRR!!!

I have to have a big job done on the garden ready for them its a night mare!!!

Anyway can anyone give me a list of all the things I have to have in place just to use as a check list just in case I have missed one essential item out - I am also in the midst of doing a complete overhaul of my policies which are a right mess at the moment - I started that a while before Christmas but I've had non stop sinus & water infections for a few months now so have fallen right behind in all my paperwork - to make matters worse I am due to have an operation on 18th April - so I just want a list of the legal minimum requirements and the correct wording for the medical assistance permission form - so at least I cant be awarded an inadequate - at the moment I will be really really happy with a satisfactory now that I won't be ready - I am gutted!!

Oh hunny take a breath!!

I will re-send you the inspection guide from e-book 18. Just have a read through that it's got everything in it.

It's recently updated as well so it has the latest good practice stuff from inspections late last year.

Your garden is lovely don't start anything major just tart up what you have already in place.

Your policies will be fine - they are a work in progress - just make sure the statutory ones are up to date, the rest will wait.

It's 'Permission to request emergency medical advice or treatment for a child'.

Then just do finishing touches to the things you already have in place. Make sure LJs are updated, children's files tidy, everything signed etc.

Hugs xx

Make yourself a To Do List or a Wish List showing what plans you have for the house and garden. You don't have to have it all done in time for your inspection, but it shows that you are aware of any problems and are working towards fixing them.

My garden was a real mess when Ofsted came & there was no way I could have got it sorted in time. I'd made a "Garden Plan" file and put in it a risk assessment for the garden as it was, a list of what was wrong with it & how I overcame the problems (eg. use the park when it was too muddy to go in the garden), a plan of how I wanted it to be when it was finished and details of how I intended putting it right (grant for fencing, new layout etc).

I really thought the garden would let me down and told the inspector so. She said that it was good that I was aware of what needed doing & was working towards sorting it out. She said it was all part of self evaluation, which was a positive thing

HS doesn't do breathing at the best of times sarah.
Dont worry you will be fine, we will virtually help as much as poss and as sarah says just don't worry about the garden there is nothing you can do about it now so there's no point in running round like a headless chicken.
get dh to do some tidying in there over the weekend.

get the kids to keep down stairs tidy and you focus on the ljs
I know i know easier said then done but they will pull together if you explain why you are stressed.

I thought it was permission to seek not request or does that not matter. Only asking because i have been updating as well.:)

Oh and another thing on our emergency contact cards do we put for example...J Smith or the full first name Jane Smith. :)

Seek / request - I've seen both used by outstanding childminders.

The Eyfs says seek I suppose

Emergency services must be able to identify the child from the information you take out with you - so use your judgement and be ready to explain why you have made that decision. There are no regulations one way or the other.

Always annoying when they come at the wrong time, but you'll be fine. Just follow the advice already given and read Sarah's book...it'll be a breeze. Then you can relax and enjoy the summer without the thought of 'that' call!:)

See you soon x:jump for joy:

Thanks sarah, the reason i asked was because the permission form that i was given for the parents to sign to say i can carry these details say that i will not put the full first name. I dont know why and was not sure of the reason we should not.

I hate all this no regulations one way or the other. My old cards had their full name and Ofsted were ok with this last time. Oh who knows

Oh thank you all so much for that girlies I'm sorry I didn't reply later but that was because I have been very busy typing like a thing posessed - I've been trying to motivate my DH to shift his ass and take the wooden structure down fully - and he and DS have taken most of them down but we did have an arch left from the one that fell down last year which was really secure and the doses cut that off at the bottom - I'm not bothered that its gone I just hope they haven't left any stubs sticking up out of the ground that the kiddies can trip over - I haven't got time to go out and check - I really am in a bit of a mess to tell you the truth but I'm getting there - I've made a file on my computer just for inspection paperwork and I am putting everything in there that the inspector will need to see and am altering and up dating it as I do it - I now have all my legally required policies up dated and as long as they are correct thats all that matters the rest are up to me and I will just explain that I am updating them one at a time as I get a chance she can see where I have scribbled all over them and have got pieces of paper in the plastic wallets with new wording etc attached to them - I've up dated my sef and that is now completed - I dared to have a moan about how I could not keep on my assistant as it was not financially viable as they would not routinely increase my numbers so that I could afford to pay her and be in a position to replace children as they leave instead I have to put in a variation request for every child I would wish to take on over the 3 I have I am registered for I also moaned that they took away my overnight care when they sent out the replacement Certificate and when I asked why I was told it was due to changes in the regulations but the guy couldn't tell me which particular changes but just said that I would have to apply for a variation if I was called to provide emergency overnight care on behalf of SS anyhow its done and I don't care - I didn't put it as a complaint as such I just explained why I'd made the changes I have. Anyhow been working on planning and risk assessments and they are a boreing b*** ache so there!!!

I've also prepared a pre- inspection Questionnaire for parents and a letter of notification of inspection.

They are the only two unnecessary nice touches I'll be doing until I have made sure everything else is properly in place.
