I don't know if this is correct, but we were told this morning by our network supporter that Ofsted are checking that you have your name on all your risk assessments.

Just in case they belong to someone else

How do they think we could borrow someone elses

I got an action at my recent inspection for not having my name on each risk assessment! Even though they were in a named folder, not good enough! :panic:

I could understand it in a nursery setting or where you work with someone else!

So yes make sure that your name is on each of your risk assessments.

Maybe they have been in areas where it has been noticed that the paperwork of a number of childminders is the same because one has handed out paperwork to others.

I have a feeling that may happen in my area when they start to catch up.

According to the regulations you should have the name of the person who completed the risk assessment, the date it was completed and the review date on each RA.

Daft when there's only you but that's what it says.

We were told recently that Ofsted are also cross checking your RA's against accident reports (to see if you've reviewed your RA) and if they see photos of an outing asking to see the RA for that outing.

Miffys right ( dont tell her though!)
They check Ra's against pictures/ outing mentioned in planning, daily diaries etc.
My DO hasd a good idea:eek: Number your Ra's then when planning an outing put " RA 1" on planning to show everytime you plan you cross reference with you ra if that makes sense !

Hi iv followed this thread and have found it very usefull but was still wondering how often do you have to review your ra's for example trips to the beach or water park? We live very close to the beach so would go there a lot, would I need to do one everytime we went or could I do a monthly one for example ?

You would write a risk assessment covering everything you can think of.

You check it before you go ... and when you come back you update it if things have changed.

if there are accidents or incidents during your visit you review the RA again to see if you could do anything different next time.

It's an ongoing process but shouldn't be time consuming once you get into the swing of it.

Reviews would generally be annually, or whenever something happens that now needs to be taken into account
With an outing to the beach for example, although the route may be the same, if they were digging up the road one day, you would mentally risk assess that problem, and if needed, change your RA when you get home.

I would review each time I went (in my head) but I'd only make a note if anything was any different.

I do the same as Miffy - I have generic risk assessments which I review annually of if something changes. I do not do one every time I leave the house - totally ridiculous and I simply dont have the time as most of my mindees are under 3 and usually in a buggy

Ofsted were happy with my generic risk assessments and I dont plan to change them - if we risk assess everything on top of all the other paperwork will we every have time to actually play with the children... rant over...

This is what I do - I have a few generic ones - which are just a list of thinks I will check - so for example - it does not matter if we take a different route some days or go to a new place - because the things I check for remain the same.

The only recording I do is if I indentify a risk and them what I did to reduce or minimise the risk - this goes in my dairy - so minimum amount of writing as it is my dairy (so I am the one writing it) and the page is dated already.

All I can say is role on the end of this current EYFS as from everything I have read / experienced so far indicates that under the revised EYFS from Sept there will much less requirement for formal written RA's.

In the meantime of course we will have to comply with the current EYFS - which I do and with out the need of extensive written RA's.

Penny :)
