Whilst my two littlies are sleeping - I got an Outstanding today. Am absolutely chuffed but now feel utterly worn out. That much so I went to make myself a glass of water and instead got a plate and poured the water on a plate!!!

I did ask the inspector about the timing of my inspection as it was only 2.5 years since I got a good. She said that now under the new system Ofsted send the info to the two companies (in my case Prospect) and then they send the inspectors out regardless of when the childminder was last inspected. So please so not expect the inspection to be every 3 years as it could be sooner.

Congratulations!!

Was your last inspection before EYFS came in? I was told that with EYFS they work on a 3 year cycle & that you will be inspected sometime within those 3 years, not necessarily after 3 years. It's a bit daft though that you were inspected after 2.5yrs while I know people who have been almost 4 years since their last inspection!

My last one was under the standards but it seems that a lot of people are getting done in Peterborough now. I have one friend who it had been 4 years since her last inspection when she was inspected but for me it was 2.5 so its just luck of the draw I suppose.

The main points that she commented on was the way I plan. I am very much out the child as an individual and really stressed that. I will cover a theme but only very loosly in the background and only if the children show interest in it. I keep a daily diary for myself which has the days events, then any observations I have noted (which I link to the EYFS), then I have next steps and finally a to do section. Observations are then just copied and pasted into the childs Records of Acheivement and next steps are copied and pasted in to a weekly planning sheet for my reference. I also have an A4 obs sheet for those who are in full time education but still under EYFS which gets shared with school every term. Then I have a grid to log the areas of the EYFS I have taken obs from so I can see if there is anything I need to focus on more. She also love my quarterly news letter and memos to parents.

SEF was also really important as she was able to pull it from the system and was armed with loads of info before the visit which meant the questions she asked were more targeted and not so general. My SEF was very detailed as well.

I had a rice play activity set up which the children played with which was really good as I was able to bring in lots of things related to PSRN and she could ask questions about where I saw what we were doing as fitting with the EYFS.
