Hi Guys,

I'm wondering how I start the obs / planning for a new 3yo. Do I go through the assessment grid what he can / can't do and then work from there? Or is there some kind of baseline assessment? If I do just go through the assessment grid, how do i date and evidence it?
Sorry for the stupid questions, but I'm confused:eek:

Thank you!

I would start with assessing the information you have gathered from the parents and anything from nursery, if he attends. Then over the next few days do a selection of activities and from observing these build up an overview of the child's abilities in each of the 6 areas of development and work out some next steps - use the practical guidance document to help with this.

Once you have a starting point you will then be able to plan activities around this.

Hope it helps:thumbsup:

Thanx guys. Wasn't sure if there was an actual baseline assessment or not.
Ok, it sounds like good advice, so I'll have a good read through the eyfs and see approx where he is.
Thanx again

just a sentence or two on each of the areas should be enough starting points to work from.
