At my pre registration visit I am fairly certain that the inspector said that I should get over 8's parents to sign to say that they have read safeguarding policy & something else? For the life of me I can't remember & can't find my noteabout it. Was I imagining this? I don't have many over 8's & it is mostly for between 1-3 hours. Should their parents sign a medication form permitting the administration of calpol in the case of a temp etc..? I would ask my DO but she is not so esy to get hold of at times.
Personally I don't think that the form is needed. Afterall, nothing at school would be administered, a phone call would be made & the child collected. Why should it be different for childminders, unless I am missing something?

Sorry - no idea which one.
I don't care for over 8's at the moment - but in the past parents of over 8's have had to sign the same paperwork as everyone else.
I consider it 'good practice' and I want these parents to be aware of and abide to my policies and procedures. Also re medication / accident forms etc - I want records so that if anything happens in the future (safegurding issues / being sued by child for not treating injuries correctly ect) I have the evidence to back up my version of events rather than a vague memory.
Also I consider the over 8's to be CHILDREN and just because Ofsted think that they do not need the same level of regulation - I do not have to agree.

My over 8s parents read and sign all the same paperwork as under 8s. I also dont agree with OFSTED not having the same regard for over 8s but thats another story. xx

Thank you for your replies. I have of course got parents to sign normal documentation, but I have a nagging feeling that there was something else that was needed.:panic:

There is nothing extra that is needed. You need, for good practice, to treat every child and their parents in the same way - all the same paperwork. The only thing that's different is that they aren't included in your numbers.

There are certain policies and procedures which are statutory for over 8s.
They are listed in this thread -
http://www.childmindinghelp.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?t=45805
The regulations for over 8s are slightly different to those for Eyfs aged children and can be found here -
http://www.ofsted.gov.uk/Ofsted-home/Forms-and-guidance/Browse-all-by/Other/General/Factsheet-childcare-Requirements-for-the-Childcare-Register-childminders-and-home-childcarers
Document 080161 if this doesn't work.
Other than that you should have all paperwork in place as for the younger children in case it is questioned.
You will not be inspected for over 8s but if there is a complaint or something is not in place then it can affect your grading.
hth :D

Thanks for that Sarah. I worried needlessly, my inspection took place yesterday & it all went very well. :) Am still shocked at my result, but can't say what it is yet. The inspection lasted 4 1/2 hours!!
