I have Ofsted visiting this week and I don't actually serve foood to my mindees as they're all before school ones and I wondered if I would need to still have a fridge temperature chart on show or not?
Thanks

If you don't serve food / keep food for children to eat then you should be ok without any temps taken.

Just say to the inspector if asked that you monitor it but don't write it down because you don't keep food in the fridge for minded children.

:panic: Oh god, not more paperwork. I was completely unaware that i would have to record the fridge temp. How do i do this?
Everytime i read something i discover i have to do more. Finding it really hard getting my head around it all.

Thanks Guys

You need to get hold of a pack called 'Safer food better business for childminders' from here -

http://www.food.gov.uk/enforcement/enforceessential/startingup/childminders/

If you follow the advice it says you must monitor your temps and note if something goes wrong.

However, many Ofsted inspectors prefer it if you note temps every day so that they are reassured you are actually doing it.

Thanks guys. I will tell the inspector this and tell her that I am due a visit from environmental health next week regarding registering as a food business :)

I just record fridge temp once a week in my diary (I do have the Safer Food, Better business pack but prefer to record everything in one place)

Ofsted and Environmental health were happy with my approach to daily check which is - does the milk container feel cold?

will I have to buy a thermometer to record the temperature?? my fridge just has a dial on it that you turn to increase or decrease the temp?

My enviromental officer said it is not compulsary to write it down....I do have a thermometer and do check it for reassurance, but don't write it down and Mrs o was fine with that!:)

I just have a cheap therometer - it gives an idea as to temperature. The EH officer checked my fridge and said it was actuially colder than my therometer was saying - so if it says 4 it is actually 2 or 3.

My inspector was lovely and she never even asked about the fridge when we got to healthy eating! I volunteered the information myself in the end
