Just phoned OFSTED and asked for a variation for 4 under 5's

The baby is 9 months old, and is the cousin of a LO i have looked after for 2 yrs.
Mum is keen for me to have him knowing how well her niece is getting on here.

The lovely man at OFSTED said...." I will pop a variation in the post, he couldnt say if it would be accepted or not:(

So I will fill it in and pray like mad its accepted:thumbsup:
Really want to help this mum out:thumbsup:

Fingers crossed for you. Unfortunately when someone I know tried for a similar variation they were refused as it's not counted as continuity of care as they're not siblings. But we all know how fickle Ofsted can be and hopefully they'll say yes to you

You can email a variation request if you want them to get it faster. I did that with my last one and it got sorted really quickly.

Good luck Orksie.

Play up the family connection when you fill in the variation form. If you know mum has looked at other childminders but can find no-one suitable or there is no-one else in the area with a vacancy put that in too.

Hope it works out for you

Oh, that's a shame. At least she was nice about it though.

Did she say why it would be granted?

My friend was told by Ofsted that they only do variations now for continuity of care for siblings. This was within the last 2 weeks and may be the reason for them saying no to cousins:(

I'm sorry Orks :( Mine was refused for cousins a couple of years ago too.

I have one here to send of. Mine is because my co- childminder is going off on maternity leave and her mindees can not get care...so i will be over by one each day. I will have a assistant helping me.
Do you think I will be allowed. We have had the children since a early age.
There is 2 lots of sibling but on different days

The reason for not granting the variation was because, although they are family they are not Siblings.

Her Words " We dont give variations for Cousins"

:(

Oh well at least I tried.

That's a shame Orksie - not entirely unexpected though :(

Guessed it would be that, but hoped it wasn't! I've just had a mum mention to me that her sister wants her baby to come here. I've told her I don't have the space & am very unlikely to get a variation for it.

I know, its a shame, I guess they have to draw the line somewhere:(
