Had my first ofsted inspection yesterday and i cant help thinking that it was very ott and i felt that they were constantly trying to trip me up all the time. I got an overall grade of Satisfactory (which is ok). Inspector pulled my up because i hadnt done a risk assessment on the christmas tree!!!!!, and again because SHE through a step on my back garden was a little bit big (though i think it is a normal size step), she said the health and safety of the children is very good but because i hadnt done the risk assessment on the tree and step she had to put down it was satisfactory ...... it didnt matter if i had locks on my cupboards so children couldnt drink hazordous substances, or if children were using age appropriate car seats in the car etc etc, she also said i needed more resources on other cultures / same sex families, one parent families etc, i felt like packing it all in by the time the inspecter went!!! RAAAAHHHHH so over the top, sorry, rant over, cant help feeling dissapointed though :-( as i thought i had done really really well

She really pulled you up over not having same sex parents stuff?
Jumped up **** full of her own self importance!
Been on too many inclusion courses I'd say.
as long as you don't get your certificate taken off you I wouldn't worry what they say.
bet none of your parents have complained about your lack of gay couple/ single parent stuff ( what on earth would that consist of anyway? maybe scribbling the dad out of a few picture books? )

Don't get down about it. My first inspection was satisfactory & I'm due my next inspection around April time.
I do think they try & pick at certain things just to make a point that they're in control of your outcome IYKWIM
Well done for satisfactory & make sure you read the points that need attention & just deal with them when you can!!

Yep, she really pulled me up on not having that stuff, what more can i say, yes it happens and if children want to ask questions then fair enough but to say i should have it in the house for children to say, Inspector came accross all nice and saying house was lovely etc etc then gives me all this, told the parents what the inspector said and they couldnt stop laughing but deep down i was quite upset cos i felt i had failed :-(

Well done with your inspection Kerry :D
mine started questionning about inclusive toys. We had some of the dolls out the day she came and she commented that they were white. I agreed that yes they were as that was what people had bought my daughter. I quickly went on to say I had Little People toys that covered different skin tones and also one in a wheel chair, posters with different languages and cultures represented CDs with Welsh songs (1 family with me has a welsh dad), Irish songs (1 family has Irish parents), Spanish songs, books with multicultural items in and ACCESS TO A TOY LIBRARY. This last bit was the thing she liked the best, not that the children would always have these items but that I was aware of somewhere I could lay my hands on a range of items. I know it is too late to help you now OP but for the future and anyone else with inspections due maybe it would help?
And well done! :)
