Well she rang today and is coming next mon or tues. I thought it was 6 months so was expecting to have my first inspection the end of January. I was planning on doing end of term newsletters with a questionnairre. Was going to send these out in 2 weeks time. So now I have no feedback from parents! What shall I do? Do you think it's ok if I just tell her that and print off a questionnairre to show her what I will ask?

I have no experience, but to me that sounds reasonable. If your intention is doing them termly you would not have any done yet. I'm sure they will be interested to see what you are planning to do.
Unless you can send them out quickly?
Good luck with your inspection!

Haven't you asked parents verbal questions that you can write up to show evidence of how happy they are?
For example, when we do a new menu we ask parents to look through it and give us their comments.
Then a few months later we might show parents their children's learning journey files and even though they don't want to write in comments, they might say something we can jot down.
We then write down what they have said and keep it in our file as evidence of communicating. :D

Do you send home a daily diary to keep parents informed of their childs day ? Do you encourage them to make comments?
If not start one now this is a good form of communicating with parents ( a nice note book will do )
I also do more or less what Sarah does too
Good luck with your inspection

I would send out the questionnaire now with a letter explaining that Ofsted are coming and ask parents to return it by Friday.
Good luck with the inspection

Just wanted to wish you good luck, I'm expecting The Call anytime now too.
Yes I do daily diaries but only 1 of the 3 parents ever writes in it and she won't be in when Ofsted are here (they are coming in the am and the child comes in the pm).
I have printed off the questionnaire I have written for Mrs O to look at too. In the front of my planning folder I have a document that tells me the frequency of paper work. This does state that I will send out questionnaires termly so I am hoping she will understand this. The children i look after are all part time and so I didn't want to rely on sending them out and not getting back in time anyway.
I went through some emails and have quoted a couple in my "compliments" book. I also quote parents in the learning journeys. I have sent out an email about working together and reminding them they are able to see certain documents/books at any time and add any comments etc they just don't seem to be interested. Shall I print off some of these emails to show her that I have tried even if they don't respond?
I do speak to the parents at each session and have asked about foods to one particular family but I haven't written it down - just used info to think about what foods I offer. I am thinking I need to start yet another folder for logging things spoken about. What would you call that? A communication log?
It is going to be a very complicated day if she comes on Monday as my pm mindee is staying for lunch at school and I am collecting her half hour later than usual. Another mindee has booked in for the am as mum on a training course (he's not normally in mon) and then I have another mindee all day, my son (2) and we'll have my dds school runs too! I did tell Mrs O that and she didn't seem bothered - maybe cos she plans to come on tues?!

This is what happened with me - first inspection before planned quesionaire went out. She was more than happy to see a printed copy and with me explaining would be going out at end Dec.
She did look at Daily diaries and did look at LJ's - which had some email communication about a few issues (eating and potty training, requests for change to hours)
I am sure Mrs O does not expect you to have done everything this soon into your registration - but wil be very interested to hear about your plans for the future development of your pratice.
Good Luck
Penny :)
Thanks Penny that's good to know. Yes I have been keeping LJs up to date so no probs there. Think I will print things off to show her anyway - can only be a positive thing to have more I suppose. I have been working through the Every child matters cards and making notes as to how I put them into practise so I hope this will show how I am planning to better my practise and in what ways too. I am hoping to have a relaxing day tomorrow. Although my ds hasn't seemed well today - not eaten much, tired and come out with a rash on back and chest so hoping that will not amount to anything. :(

You sound as if you have everything organised and well planned.
I think you will be fine
stupid printer isn't working  Oh well she will have to take me as I am. Hope she turns up tomorrow now I just want it to be over! Night night
Well I had a nearly 10 month old (F) and a 24 month old (D) in the double buggy, with my ds 29 months (who was still feeling poorly) walking back from my dds school run. Just as we emerged from the alley way my ds fell over and was really crying and not wanting to walk any further and of course I noticed the "other" car in the parking area. Yes! She had arrived a bit early! So I managed to get them into the hall (I live in an upstairs flat) where she came in and introduced herself. Of course it took us ages to get up the stairs as ds decided to cry and not walk properly, while mindee D wanted to carry his blanket (HUGE) and I was carrying F. Oh my goodness what a start! Well somehow we managed to get through it and I got 2 outstandings and the rest were goods, so GOOD over all. :clapping: She told me I had too much paperwork and to try and condense it too! I found her really nice and approachable, understanding and quite adaptable to what we were doing too. Much nicer than the lady that did my pre-reg visit! Thank you all soooo much for your help. She was perfectly fine about me not sending out questionnaires earlier than expected and didn't even look at the one I printed off, just asked me what sort of thing I had asked. She was fine that the nursery had not yet responded to my request for communication, she agreed I had done my end of the deal and to wait for now. I think I had a very good inspector compared to some I have read things about!
