Hi girls (and boys!)

I've literally just got off the phone to OFSTED and I'm due my first inspection next week (only work Wed, Thurs, Fri). I now feel sick and I'm terrified.

I haven't been childminding long. I was registered in June but only got my first mindee in Sept.

Now I'm panicing about what I need..... I just feel like I'm completely not prepared for this.

I've got my policies and procedures down. I've got my NCMA folder but apart from that, I haven't done a lot as I tend to not be able to get a spare moment to breathe. I've done a couple of obs, but I don't think they are that informative.

I've got 4 girls on the books. A 1 year old, 2x 3 year olds and a 5 year old. The 2x3yr olds both have nursery sessions at different times so I'm constantly doing school runs.

I now have a week (if not less) to prepare and I don't know where to start.

Please help!!!! :panic:

Calm down firstly! :) Make sure your paperwork is p to date, contract info is correct, parents have filled in a questionaire on your services, health and safety side are being compleated risk ass, temp control sheets, safety locks etc Planning revolves around observations and childs interests, go over every child matter outcomes, sef, read statutory framework......um.....gone blank  Certificates, insurance etc on display. I'm sure somebody will be able to help you out alot better than my waffling

What are temp control sheets? sorry if that sounds like a silly question. I've not come across those before.
In regards to the SEF, I can't get access to it as I've not got a username and password. I need to phone OFSTED to get one and they will need to post out my password as they can't give me it over the phone. Which means, I probably won't receive the password until the OFSTED inspectors actually been and gone!
Is there anywhere where I can get a hardcopy?

I am sure you can print a hard copy off of the ofsted website or on Bromley website or maybe on here on the main forum. Then you can hand wrtie it.

Goodluck - I have my inspection on monday and I feel sick and cannot sleep! :(

Look through the national standards booklet and highlight the requirements making sure you have them under control first.

Then relax and breathe

I am sure you will be fine, you have a few obs - it's early days and you are getting to know the mindees, next you should be thinking on where they are at and where you will take them next in their learning in the different areas, but that will come in time.

Good luck x

Hi there,i think what chunky monkey means by temp control sheets is how you record the temperature of your fridge which has to be checked and recorded daily.I have a fridge thermometer and each morning i check the temperature and i have a note book that i record it in stating the date, the temperature and my signature.I also record in the same book that my fridge is cleaned and all food stuff is checked on a daily basis to.As for the sef form i havent even started that yet:eek:

Where does Mrs O check?
What questions do they tend to ask?

:littleangel: Hey,

I had my first inspection about a fortnight ago.I had no sef, and everyone was telling me to expect the worst.....NO NO NO

The O lady was so nice, she asked the children lots of questions, that rattled me, didn't expect her to quiz two three year olds, but the outcome was..........Good in all areas, so honey, just be yourself, making sure all your paperwork is up to date, and your medical book is evidently being used !All the Mindee's have the signed relevant consent forms, and hey relax, whats the worst ? Oops nearly forgot, risk assessments, fire dill/ log and the fridge temp check sheet.
I could go on, as its soo fresh in my mind, but won't want to bore you.
( if you do want to know what else she looked at on her visit, message me and I'll email you )

Good Luck

Hope all goes well - just had my first inspection too, all went really well. I was up at 4am checking everything was in place! I only had a couple of obs per child, just one formal one a month and some post-its for informal ones.
