Just thought I'd share my graded inspection visit:

Mrs O called on Monday to see if I had children on roll, then called later to say she would be coming either Tuesday, Wednesday or next week. She said if she wasn't there by 9.30am then I can go out.

I waited in Tues, nothing. On Wednesday I was waiting out by the car as I though if she didn't come then I would go straight out to playgroup. I saw a lady in a suit coming up the road so I knew she was for me. We went in, she was quiet so I started pointing out the parent noticeboard and fire evacuation. I asked her to sign in and take off her shoes at the door.

We went in, I showed her all the paperwork on the table and offered her tea, she said no. I went into the playroom and my 8 month old mindee screamed the entire day and wouldn't let go of me. We did treasure baskets and some play dough (home made). She followed me into the bathroom at nappy change and I had on gloves, apron and washed my hands but picked me up on the fact I didn't do baby's hands!!!!!

Mindees had snack of fruit and cheese all in bowls with serving spoons. She kept leaving the kitchen to go back to the paperwork table.

She mostly asked questions on learning journals as she thought this was my weakest area (mindee only been with me 3 days, so lucky there was a folder at all lol!). I managed to talk through what I would do.

She gave me Good in all areas and was v. positive. She said she awared this grade based on my SEF before she even came and that today was to back up the eveidence. She had been here 4 hours and I was pretty knackered but needed to pick up my dd so was at the door with my coat on ready to go!

Some things I wish I'd done , other things wish I hadn't, but hey!

I keep hearing this comment about washing baby's hands after nappy changing...

If others don't do it I think now is a good time to work out how you can include it into your routines so that, by the time Ofsted come, children accept it as something that happens.

Well done you! :clapping:

Well done to skeeling and to Laura233 for your grades

I read somewhere, on here prob, that you should use a wet wipe on babies hands after you changed their nappy so they get into the habit of cleaning their hands after toileting. :)

Very well done on your grade - 4 hours is a very long time to have an inspector in your house and must be shattering (and makes a bit of nonsense about the 'if your do your SEF your inspection will be shorter'- dread to think how long it would have been if you had not done SEF!)

Re wiping babies hands at nappy change - I never do (unless baby puts hands into nappy area/ touches dirty nappy) - nor do I wear gloves (unless an explosive nappy).

I have read / heard that this is a requirement for FECERS but not heard of it for Ofsted before. Would be interested to hear if others have been told this in relation to Ofsted.

Also would be interested to know if inspector was from Tribal or Prospects - as Prospects were having trouble accessing the online SEF - so just wondered if had sorted it out now.

Well done again on your grade

Penny :)

Hi
Thanks for all your kind comments, this forum has actually helped me a lot. She was from Tribal but worked with Ofsted before. I think you're right she was too comfy!!!
With regards to wiping baby's hands after nappy change she said it would prepare baby for hand washing when she gets older. I can see the sense in that but as a mum I didn't ever do that, so childminding is teaching me a whole new range of things.
I did have a parent come round to talk to the inspector and say nice things about me, which maybe one reason why she was here that long. The poor parent felt like she was back at school again! She felt a bit grilled at the end of it. But overall I was happy with the time she was here, she was positive and helpful to me but I did back chat her a few times. She said I wasn't giving everyone enough water and I had to point out the water bottles in every room and sounded a bit like Vicky Pollard - yeah but no but!
She was ok with that, but I had to correct her a few times.
I was glad it was over, only to find out now that I need to finish my Quality Assurance Scheme and have to have a home visit next week, which by the letter is exactly the same as the inspection, so what's the point in that?
