Hi all,

As the title says i am in the middle of registering my partner as my assistant (well actually i have already done that - just a quick call to Ofsted!) but in order for her to be left alone with the children for short periods of time (ie school runs) i need to apply for a variation...

I have done loads of varations in the past for additional children etc but this one has thrown me a bit!

D4. In what circumstances do you wish the assistant to be left alone and for how long? How is this in the best interests of the children? How will you ensure that your assistant will continue to meet the needs of all children in your absence?

I think i know what i want to say i just can't work out how to say it! Can anyone give me some tips/helpful words PLEASE :littleangel: xx

I would like the assistant to be alone with children if, for example...

A child is asleep and I am going out to collect other children from school;

A child is ill and waiting for parents to collect and I am going out to collect other ...

The weather conditions are inclement and parents have not sent the child in appropriate clothing

Things like that...

How is this in the best interests of the children?

If the children stay with the assistant they will be able to continue their playing / wait for their parents / continue their sleep / stay safe from inclement weather etc.

How will you ensure that your assistant will continue to meet the needs of all children in your absence?

I will ensure that my assistant has a first aid certificate and give her ongoing training so that she is able to meet the needs of each child.

My assistant will know the children well and will have access to their 'all about me' and other records so that she is able to provide them with appropriate drinks and snacks while I am out.

My assistant will have access to all the resources of my provision and be able to provide the children with stimulating games and other activities in my absence.

In an emergency situation, my assistant blah blah fire drills etc.

Something like that? :D
