My first inspection for 4 years, almost to the day (last inspection 10th Oct 2006)

I dont do tonnes of files, charts, planning etc but over the last year have sorted out a system that i felt covered the bases and works for me and the families i work with - but until today had no idea if it was ok.

Fours years on my house was soo much messier too! I was soo nervous, even though I have had great feedback from families and I have previously worked in quite senior jobs so knew how to present my work well iykwim.

Well i had at least done my SEF before hand but everything else i planned went kaput. My 2 normally well behaved charges turned into complete monkeys  One was constantly obessed with sticking finger into my tv/dvd/virgin box arrnagement and throwing pieces of jigsaw/bricks/shape sorters anywhere he couls - including the OFSTED inspector!! I felt a right fool cos i kept saying " he's never done that before" But he hadnt!!!

The other lo decided to either copy first one or scowl/cry whenever OFSTED inspector looked at her as shes decided nobody she doesn't know can speak to me!

The planned activity I had went completly out the window as the kids just wanted to create mayhem:eek:

it took me ages to make a sandwich as the ofsted inspector was behind in her report - apparently the ofsted and Tribal systems are not totally compatible so everything took longer! Never got to make myself one in the end as once I sat down, first midee , who had a nega snotty cold started to fall asleep in his lunch bless him - cue manic cleaning up to get him upstairs, second mindee kicking off as she did not want to be left with scary OFSTED lady so having to hoike 2 tiddlers upstairs then persuade 2nd one back down as she was still in bib etc for lunch...

Inspection started at 10.30 and ended at 3;00:!!

Really needed some fresh air but soo late for school run had to jump in car instead - kids feet hardly touch the ground when we legged it at other end to get DD and after schoolies!

Despite all that it WAS a very interesting experience, differant to last time round. Inspector apologised profusely for length of time, saying it takes longer now as if they have to make sure all THEIR evidence on the report can be fully certified due to being outsourced and because of recent scandels etc.

but she had loved coming to my setting as it was clear I was passionate about my job and very much an OUSTANDING practitioner clapping:

i was soo happy I could have hugged her - and then kicked her out quick for school run

She did say a couple of interesting things as well as above.

1. All oustanding grades have to be carefully verified as above, but are also double checked by area manager before reports confirmed etc. This would not mean reinspection:eek: if queried, but possible she might need to ring me to double check specifics for report.

2. There ARE alot of inspections happening now as when inspectorate was outsourced there were a few weeks of low activity and that meant last 6 months or so has been priority inspections - new registrations and unsatisfactories. BUT they have now caught up with backlog so if u were due an inspection in last year - THEY ARE COMING SOON!!:D

So it was longer and much harder work than I thought it would be, but I am obsiously very happy with the result and actually before knowing this, found it was enjoyable as Inspector got me talking about how i did things and got me to talk her through one of the childrens files so she got to see how i showed abilities and progression.

Right shutting up now as I am starting to bore myself :D

wow - it's sounds like a hard day but ultimately very satisfiying! My inspection was due in August so I'm waiting for the phone call, still struggling to get my system right though so if I maintain the Good that I've had since starting ten years ago then I'll be happy. Congratulations, your hard work and passion obviously showed through.

I am also due an inspection soon and like you I do not do loads of paperwork but am trying to find a system that works for me. My problem is that i get started on one system and then find something else (normally through this forum) and start another system. I really must get my act together and stick to one way. I am hoping that I have got a little more time on my side to really find a good system that works for me.

Oh gosh thanks everyone, just sat down for a break - have 3 under 2s on a wednesday so its totally mad!! it was soo lovely to find all your kind words here - i had a mixed response from other local cms but i know how much work when into my grade :)

For those of you looking for a way of managing the paperwork, what I would advise is that the inspector wanted a clear pathway of development for the child, evidence of working in partnership, of safeguarding (risk assessments etc) and usual policies.

Oh and I had linked all my policies etc to ECM in one HUGE folder which meant I had everything in one place to refer her to.

Everything all laid out ready for her - even told her where to sit to read and where was best for her to observe play :)

next time I will get the sandwiches ready though!
