thing is though ive only actually done 6 days of minding!! the little one i look after has been coming since 5 august and done 6 days in that time, how can ofsted grade me on this small amount of time!!
he asked about obs, and i told him i havent actually done any yet so said hed have a look at the all about me page, i better do one then:panic: what should i have in this, is it something the parents fill out or me, should of thought of this earlier but didnt think theyd be coming for months yet!
what obs should i be doing on a 1 year old (she was 1 last friday) i might try and do one when she is here on thurs so ive got something to show mr ofsted,
he is the same one that did my pre reg and is a nice man so hopefully it will be ok!
do i just carry on as normal when he is here is it a case of him observing me?
and last question should i be wearing gloves when changing nappies or is it up to me?
sorry for all the questions im really panicking now:eek:

Before a child starts with you, you should have asked parents to fill in lots of information about the child's likes, dislikes, dietary needs etc - that's an 'all about me' booklet.
Then you do a series of initial observations during the settling in visits and the child's first few sessions with you... these give you what are known as 'starting points'.
From the child's starting points you can plan 'next steps' - this is the child's individual planning.
Each child needs a file with all about me, starting points and next steps ideas ... lots of input from parents.
You can print off the ages and stages information that best suits the child once you have starting points as well.
Then you do observations... link them to the Eyfs... think about next steps and you are well on your way to producing a learning journey for the child.
Hth :D

Have a look on the Ofsted Website and read through any other childminder reports he has done, you will pick up on the sort of things he is looking for as he praises (or not) other people.
Observations - date - observation eg x pointed at the sheep in the story and made baaaa noise' - link to eyfs (probably CLL or KUW) and age this relates to - next steps eg get more animal books from library to encourage interest or go for a walk where x can see other animals
Do you do planning? Put your next steps on your planning for next week to show you are linking obs and planning.
have all your policies and stuff you would show parents in a folder that you can just hand to him. Mine also wanted to see what permission slips I had to check I had the important stuff like consent for medical help. He will almost certainly want to see risk assessments so make sure yuo have those to hand over. Get him to sign visitor book. Have you done a fire drill? Have a record of that to show.
Make a cup of tea for you both and get on with your day as normal. If you havent done your SEF (dont start now if you havent!) he will probably ask you some questions about how you manage your day and the children. The rest of the time just leave him to it. Do have a look at the SEF tho as it will give you some ideas of the types of questions they will ask. When I was asked what the kids were getting out of the sticky craft activity we were doing it took a good few minutes of me babbling before I realised I was supposed to answer along the lines of EYFS - creative development, knowledge and understanding of the world etc.
All about me is something parents or you and them together fills in to give you some idea of childs likes, dislikes, routines etc.
Put together a learning journey for mindee, for a mindee you have had a week this could just be your all about me form, a couple of observations and a photo or two to link to the observations if you have had any printed yet.
If you dont wear gloves to change nappies how do you manage the risks involved? A few people have posted to say they explained how they minimised the risk of contamination and Ofsted were fine.
Hope thats some help, at least it will be over and done with! All the inspectors I have met have been very nice and supportive,. I am sure it will go fine :)

thankyou, i find all this really hard to be honest, the obs linking ect which is why i havent really done any yet! i have done a child info sheet when she started (likes dislikes ect) so im ok there!
it really annoys me that if it wasnt for coming on here i wouldnt know any of this stuff apart from doing observations and next steps and then ive not really been shown how to do it, teachers train get training to learn this stuff im just a mum of 3 and worked for royal mail for 15 yrs so how am i supposed to to just know it all:(
do you think i will get unsatisfactory as i havent done a lot of what he is expecting? the fact ive only minded for 6 days in total seems really unfair if i get a bad grade which is going to last for the next 3 year
ive done my risk assessments and he did ask if ive done my sef i said no and he said its a bit early for that yet anyway, phew!
when he asks me anything about eyfs im not going to have a clue what to say! im so rubbish at this:(
planning- i havent done this at all omg im so clueless feel like giving up now:panic:
im going to ring the f.i.s tomorrow and get on a few courses, this has given me a kick up the bum now to get myself sorted!!

You have probably done most of it in your head just not written it down. Have you got the cdrom from your EYFS pack? Put it in and click on resource index at the top right of the screen. Under enabling environments there are sections on planning from birth, under 2 etc. Just have a read through. And for EYFS you just need to have a look at the colourful cards and think in your head how you do all the different bits - KUW feeding the ducks, CD - mark making, PD - playing outside etc. From the observations you do of the child you put stuff in place to keep them interested which is your next steps. You are supposed to be child led and follow their interests so chances are its all in place, all you need is the written evidence and if not that then understand how much you do every day with the child. Much of the inspection is about singing your own praises and giving yourself credit for what you do!

it went well, the inspector took into account the fact i havent actually done much minding yet and im not that great when it comes to the eyfs and obs ect! but id booked on a couple of courses so he was happy with that. i was surprised he only stayed just under 2 hours thought it would be longer, only 30 of that was with my mindee so he didnt really observe me with her he was more interested in the eyfs side of things. asked a few safeguarding questions as well.
anyway i got satisfactory which i was happy with as ive got a lot to learn!!

How do you do that? I looked on the web site and couldn't work out who did the inspections

go onto the website click:
inspection reports
then the blue box that says early years and childcare
where it says find providers near your home choose childminder from drop down list and put in your full post code
click any of the e.y. numbers and you wil get latest reports, click chilminder report and on the next page will be the report the name of the inspector near the top.
hope that makes sense!!
some wont have reports yet so just keep trying till you find one that has and the name of your inspector, i found quite a few!
