Hi Everyone.
Just a quick question..
I have just started minding and have got a little baby on a saturday, Her mum text me and asked if I could have her and her 3 yr old brother full time as of september, but it would mean I would be over my numbers on a tuesday as I have another 2 yr old and a 3 yr old boy but only between 12 and 3.
Do you think ofsted would let me have a variation for those three hours on a tuesday as the baby is used to me as is the three year old (good friends son) so I dont want to let either of the parents down or make the LO's move to a different provider.
Any one had a similar scenario or any advice would be great.
Thanks
Lee-Anne

having the baby wouldnt be a prob as you have her now and its continuity of care but the older one you dont have so would be a prob unless you say you have them both on sat:blush:

I see, but if I was to tell ofsted they are both in my care on the Saturday they may consider the variation as its continuity of care? Is that right?
I dont want to let either parent down as I am friends with one and she has been good to me in the past, but on the other hand I dont want to lose the baby!!
GRR!!
Thanks x

yes but im not telling you to lie, it was a idea if you dont need it for a few weeks ask mum if you can have 3yr old now on sat that way youre not lieing:blush: or could mum find c.c for the day you will struggle for a month then you could apply for variation, you may not get it anyway but if i was you id either have lo on sat for a few wks or see if mum has relatives for the hrs you cant do. its hard but would give you a better chance of it working.

they will offer variation for siblings and continuity of care as if you can't have the 3yr old you may pose a problem for mum, as baby is already with you this should stand. it could take a while tho think the wait is 4-6 wks at the mo?

Have you had your first inspection yet? The general rule is that they won't consider a variation before your first inspection.

As it's a sibling of an existing child you may be ok. HTH

Not had my 1st inspection yet :(
Hoping I can ask the other parent, who is a friend of mine to swap the day I have LO to a Friday then I am all ok and will be fine.. but I really dont want to upset her..
Thanks for all your help!!!

I had a variation for two under ones before I had my first inspection. If you don't ask you wont know.
I wouldn't lie to get a variation though, there's always somebody waiting to drop you in the doodoo...
As the other parent is a friend I'd explain the situation and ask if it made any difference to her which day her child came in. :)

I think I will try and get my friend to change her sons hours first and then if not I will speak to ofsted.
I wont lie to them as its not worth it in the long run but I will explain its continuity for the other child as she would have two childminders, one mon-fri and then another on a saturday and she is settled with me.
Worst case scenario I will have to drop the part timer... I dont want to, but c'est la vie!!!
