I'm newly registered and have two things I would like some help with please!

Firstly, journals - what do you use for them? i.e. scrap book, ring binder and individual pages put in each time you put obs in?

Secondly, emergency contacts list - what needs to be on it and who needs to be on it?

I'm probably being a bit thick but would really appreciate the help.

Thanks xx :)

You are not thick! It is not easy when you are starting out. :)

There is a section on Learning Journals on the Forum which might help you:

Me too but don't worry about it we just starting out so we not supposed to know everything. It will take time to figure it all out. at least we have help on hand, i did get some ebooks from sarah they were very useful she puts it in a way we can understand and gives examples too. I would defo check them out.

As yet i've not staterd my journals but I have got loads of evidence just not got time to do it yet.

Thank you Shelly it's very kind of you to say so!

The link Pauline has given you should provide lots of suggestions for learning journeys.

As for emergency contacts, you need to link to your emergency policy / procedure and show how you will care for children in an emergency situation.

For example, what will happen if the house is on fire? Where will you go? Who will you contact first? How will you make sure that the children's needs are met? What if a child has an illness or medical condition? etc

Hth :D

Paperwork you got to love it!

for my journal each child has a hardback A4 book that I write in each day, stick photo's in and bits of artwork that can fit etc, this goes home on last day of the week for parents to look at and comment in and comes back on first day of next week for updating. I do not put my obs or planning sheets in jounal but in a ringbinder folder I have for each child a long with other necessary paperwork, (contacts, signed policys etc) this stays with me and parents can view it at mine and inspectors can see it if needed.

As for emergency contact list at home I have the following telephone numbers: fire/[police/ambulance both emergency and local, social workers referral teams, BFYES (your OFSTED phone number) childminding co-ordinator (your network co ordinator, i think?) NCMA, and local welfare numbers (because I'm with MOD in Germany) and this list is up on the wall in my hall where anyone can see it. xx hope that helps xx
