Hi all,
First of all I havent posted on here very much but have been reading lots of posts. I'm getting ready to send my reg forms into Ofsted and just thought maybe someone could help me with a query i have about my portfolio. How much or how little is best to put in there ready for when Ofsted come for the inspection!! I'm panicky that no matter what its going to be wrong. Thanks for your help.

Do you mean your pre-reg inspection? If so then you dont need anything! I had done some policies and procedures and she didnt even want to see them. She just asked me a few questions and checked my house was safe etc..
Dont panic, its nothing to worry about

That is fantastic.. I am at the same stage as you and was worried about sending off paperwork as didnt want them to turn up if I hadn't finished all my policies etc.
So it is the same as the visit you get from your support person at the council?
What sort of questions etc do they ask? I am guessing then they do not grade you at this first visit? How long after do they re visit to grade you?
Sorry for all the questions

I have my council visit tomorrow and we have to have all our polices/procedures and portfolio in place!
I believe that you are not graded until your first inspection after your registration, which is normally 6 months after registration.

Thanks for the advice, I have my Pre- Reg Inspection this Wednesday, just when the kids are off school Lol!! I am very nervous but very excited too, I cannot wait to get started. Just one question I have, how long after the inspection are you usually able to start Childminding?
Thanks again.
Trina :)

It went well, I was nervous too but was fine once he got here. :) I phoned them up the day after to ask how long it will take to get the certificate, and they said they are just waiting for him to submit his notes and then it could take up to 30 days!!! But usually it is quicker than that apparently. Hope you get yours soon!
How was your inspection then, did you feel ok once they arrived? Did you get any useful tips?

I'm still waiting for the call but am nervous as not ready yet. Think i'm gonna set myself a deadline as letting so much distract me and then got ill. Now on the mend and wanting to jump to it.
Good luck with your pre regs.
Also, i sent in my forms over a month ago and still haven't seen anyone, don't panic. Call Ofsted if you need support as they are really helpful x

30 days!!! Omg I feel like I'm never going to get started at this rate. The most useful tip I got was about the observations she was really nice and said the best way to learn is to practice on my little girl - so thats what I have been doing. Have you got any Children ready to mind once you are set up?
Hope things get a move on for us all.

I know, it feels like an endless long wait, doesn't it! Still haven't had mine through the post.
I've got one afternoon afterschooler for one day to start in Jan, and a 21 month old coming to visit this Sunday. I'll start proper marketing myself as soon as the certificate comes through, I know there is a need for childcare in my area so not overly worried. Have you got any lined up yet?
Good luck!!!
