Am I right in thinking that the notice period should be equal to the amount of deposit given? So if I was given a 2 week deposit the notice period should be 2 weeks? Or is the notice period always 4 weeks?

No it can be whatever you want. I take deposits and take them off of my first months bill. Other people take a notice period deposit which is the final notice payment.

I have a four week notice period written into the contract.
Like Debbie, if I take a deposit I take it off the first month's fees. I know some childminders keep the deposit to cover the last month's fees when mindee leaves.

I have stated in my parent info pack that the deposit will be non-refundable.
But I am going to specify to parents that if all invoices are paid up to date I will use the deposit as part of the last months fees.
