had my inspection today (3 yearly) it went well.
she said I had done more paperwork than necessary,(daily diaries) but did need to concentrate more on providing 'evidence for communication with parents'
this seemed to be hot topic 'allowing parents to have feedback on everything
I did, so she suggested I provide a regular questionaire to get this feedback
evidence which could go out with a newsletter.
So for all of you out there start doing newsletters and keep a copy of them in your file.

she seemed big on parental feedback......I said my parents are always
grateful on the care I giveand we do chat about development and they often give me the odd bottle of red wine
(which they know I love) or chocolates
.................she laughed at this (an Ofsted inspector with a sense of humour!) but could not use it as evidence !

hope this helps some of you out there.

she also wanted more evidence of planning

'evidence was the key word of the day

hope this helps some of you out there.

Remeber 'evidence' does not have to be reams of planning forms, it could just be jottings in a diary for example. My Ofsted inspector said my 'scribblings' in the diary were evidence that I had a 'fluid' planning system and could adapt to the needs of the mindees each day.

For example, one day I had marked down "Take J to playgroup" and then when he arrived he was a bit tired so I noted underneath "J too tired for group we did X, Y and Z instead.

no thats what I had in my daily diary but she really wanted to see proper evidence, more a planner, she said it could be hand written

(I am in the midlands; wonder if it differs ?)

I have a daily diary as well, this was my own personal diary where I do my planning, record fridge temps, cleaning rota and R.A checks.
But as we all know, all inspectors are different :)

OMW - I'm getting more and more and more sick of all this evidence - we are not office workers - I have a husband and 2 children of my own who I'm ignoring more and more - in fact my husband is so fed up of it that it is seriously threatening my marriage at the moment and that is very very wrong!!! We do not earn enough to justify all this.

I agree with you Celest.

Thanks for the info mabel:)

I know that when we update out RAs and Policies we have to keep all the previous ones- I keep all my planning, but how the heck am I mean to keep evidence that i have used my planning and not just made it all up before the inspection?

You ought to see all the paperwork I have - folders of it - it is taking over my house and life.

I use Daily Diaries and will contuine to do so, no matter if the insepector thinks it's a waste, it sooo is not a waste to me or my parents

I know what you mean I had 13 folders out and she looked in every one and made notes from them all.

I had not been able to access SEF online, so printed out the form (yes all of it) and hand written it she liked this and said she prefered to look at it at the inspection ....so much for it being on line?

she also wanted evidence of good support with pre school and reception year at schools, but I said I take my learning journals in but they don't offer theirs back, but have popped intp pre school and said Mrs O suggested I look at X learning journal and they said yes we are supposed to, so have agreed to do a swop and read and comment for each other.

Hiya - I had a very impromptu inspection yesterday as I was re-registering for overnight care. Firstly I didnt expect them to come around. She rang the evening before to say that she would be here at 11.00. When she came she started flicking through my file and when I ask her what she was looking for she said "just looking - you havent had an inspection since the new framework was introduced have you ? if you hadnt been so busy I would have done it today" (!!!!!) my inspection isnt until March next year. I offered her my folders and showed her my daily diary ( I dont like this particular inspector cos I know she is out to get me!- previous experience) When they last came I was graded 'inadequate' as I had not told them about my new born. When she spoke to me yesterday they still hadnt updated the files ( my son is now two !!) I was disgusted especially because I had sent a written letter. Anyway HER big thing is Risk Assessment - Daily ones and identifying Hazards eg doors, gates !!!! Think the laminated idea is good but definitely think it depends which area you live in as too what their hot topic is. Near miss for me and not sure whether they are allowed to do that anyway? Did get my variations changed earlier than September ( showing some common sense and to save changing it again ) and the rooms registered but had to also provide a fire evacuation plan too !!! the joys of the job !! Hope this helps anyone within Sefton area of Liverpool.

Also complaints procedure with proforma !!! needed in your file
By the way someone posted a really good risk assessment on her recently but cant seem to find it any clues ?

best wishes and a good weekend to all:clapping:
