I have heard conflicting stories about the process of becoming a childminder..........I thought that you could not start work as a childminder until you have had the ofsted inspection and received the certificate?

Is this right?

you are right, to be a registered childminder - all legal and above board you need your certificate in hand and your first aid certificate.

there are 'exemptions' - such as for less than two hrs per day, for no money or reward etc.
