my mindee was taken to hospital last night with croup is it catching and is there a exculsion time off i never known anyone with this before

I had a mindee with croup about 3 weeks ago - it is contagious, spread in the droplets as they cough so mum kept her at home.

I had a lo with croup, rang NHS direct as website not clear, person on the phone was not sure and it caused a big debate in the office there, but in the end they said child should not come whilst still coughing ok to come once cough had settled down. they did say it only applied to under 3's as older children don't catch it.

I was told by the doctor that croup is just a symptom of a cold, just like a runny nose. Some children suffer with it because their airways are not as wide as others.
