Hi all, i had a text this week of my aunty. She was house sitting for us while we were in Turkey. Said ofsted had rang and they wanted to come and see my, will ring again beginning of next week. Im thinking she's on her way!!!

So today ive been busy trying to get everything sorted. This is what ive done -

- Made a cover letter to go with my policys and procedures to get parents to sign to say they understand and agree
- read through my policys and procedures to make sure ive covered everything
- made a feedback form to send to parents about how they feel its going and if they would like to see any changes
- made sure ive got permission forms for driving, observations, sun cream, swimming and outings
- printed off the complintes record forms from off here and put them in a folder
- made sure all my planning is done, and also colour coded to the EYFS
- made sure i have 1 obervation for each child per week and also how to follow up on the observation
- got a first aid kit (do i need to take the cream out?)
- made a learning journey for my 3 year old (only just started with me so only got some obs and a few photos so not got anything in it yet, anything you think i should put in there?)
- made a cork board displaying - ofsted certificate, insurance, weeks planning, fire escape route, parents poster from ofsted, first aid cerificate.

As for the risk assesments - i have been naughty and not actually documeted them down (i have a 2 year old of my own so know its all safe, but know i need to do something on paper for ofsted) How do you do yours? Every day? Is it a tick sheet? Any help on that would be great.

If you can think of anything else - please shout up. Thanks xxxxx

It sounds like you are very organised for pre-reg!!

The inspector will go through your booklet about the Eyfs so you need to check that and make sure you have some ideas.

As for RAs haven't you covered those on your pre-reg course yet?

There's loads of ideas on the forum as well.

Good luck! :D

Hi Sarah, thanks for reply. Its not a pre-reg.....this ones the real deal! AHHH!

I've never been on a course. Maybe they thought i didnt need to as im a qualified nursery officer, i dunno. Its different at a nursery though as your just a worker - you get watched playing with the children and have your obs and planning checked, thats all. This time there is plenty of paper work that i didnt have to do. Plus its not just on you, its a whole team.

Wish they had sent me on a course though, feel a little left out in the open. Ive learnt loads from being on this site, for example, no one ever told me i had to have a visitors book or what should be on display. So thats all sorted i think.

I will have a look around on here about risk assesments, see if anyone can give me some clues as to when you do them and how you do them.

I thought the course is a requirement of registration and needed to be done with 6 months of registering.

do you mean the ICP? if so they just put my straight in for my exam as i had such a good background in childcare. Obviously didnt think about things like this though.

Yes, but it covers so many other things that are relevant to childminders. Including accounts and lots of other things that would have been done by nursery management

i see. i had a lady come out to see me, she asked what my knowledge of childcare was so i told her id worked in a nursery for 4 years, so she said i was fine to go straight in for my exam. i did that last November which took me about 10 minutes and passed that. Just shows you doesnt it. I suppose i'll have to learn as i go then.

I was a childminder when i was 18 and done the ICP course and passed it. Then i gave up childminding moved away, had my dd. Then started childminding again 3 years later. They told me i had to do the whole course agin even though i still had my original assignment and paperwork.

Was a waste of time as i had already covered it all 3 years before, i did enjoy it though and it did refresh my memory with certain things.

I was told I had to do the ICP and I've been in childcare for 12 years and been a manager of a nursery, nobody asked me about my knowledge!!!!! Hate it when it is different rules for different people and places!!!! Did think the course was a requirement otherwise I would have pushed to sit the exam as the course has taught me nothing!!!!

Hope your Ofsted inspection goes well :D

I did the DQP course here and I too am a qualified Nursery Nurse with over 9 years experience. It is an Ofsted requirement here it doesn't matter how qualified you are?
Why isn't everywhere the same?

Thanks all. Had the phone call and she is coming on Friday, she sounded really nice.

So here goes - this is whats ready. If ive missed anything shout up!!!

Planning folder ready incl linking it to eyfs
Childs own folder ready
Fire safety folder with all fire alarm tests and evacuation records
Observation folder ready with weekly obs on child and how to progress
My portfolio with welcome pack, p+p, certifcates from past nursery work etc
Sending out feedback forms for parents
Getting parents to sign a seperate sheet to say they understand and agree to p+p
Childs learning journey all set out and started to fill in
Display board up with insurance cert, ofsted parents poster, fire evaucation, weeks planning, first aid cert, ofsted cert.
Made a to do list of things i know i need to do in the next few weeks
Made a visitors book for her to sign in and out of

I also do a daily diary for child that goes home every day and parents can fill in anything they would like to in there. Also we have a chat on collection about how theyve been and paretns can give feedback then too.

So...........anything else you can think of? Ive not sent off my SEF yet. She said to either have it at hand for her to see or be able to prove i evaluate myself other ways. I cant remember my username or password (oops) so need to try and sort that out later so i can do a bit more on it for her to see. I also know i need to ask for ID when she gets here.

Any advice would be great.
