I have a 3 shelf TV unit that ISN'T covered (oval shelves) Mrs O didn't even check at my inspection last week.

I also have 2 glass units full of crystal glasses, they are covered but she didn't check those either.

Really think it depends on who you get inspecting you

I have toughened glass on the shelf under the TV and Mrs Ofsted didn't question it.

I refuse to use safety film I won't ruin things so I make sure that anything within reach is laminated safety glass or in the case of my tall glass fronted cupboard my husband made a hinged barrier in MDF which fitted accross the fornt, down the sides and hooked onto the wall like a fire guard. I painted it with balck board paint. We can take it off when there are no mindees here.
