I started a thread on this before but only had one reply ut it didn't really answer my query - thats all the same for replying!!

Basically all I want to know is when you got your new certificate was your overnight care removed from it?

Mine was and now ofsted want me to apply for a variation everytime I need to provide it.

The problem with this is that I do some adhoc work for social services offering emergency overnight care for children at risk - with what they are suggesting this will be totally impossible for me to do.

I asked the guy if he could explain why my overnight care was removed and it wasn't removed from the other minder in town and he said its because of the new regulations but couldn't explain to me what exactly in the new regulations deemed it necessary for it to be removed!!! He just mumbled it as its how some people have interperated the new regulations.

His finishing comments were that I should put my concerns in writing and he sent me a variation form to complete by email. - I may be needed to provide overnight care for one of my parents when she goes into hospital to have her second baby - I cant plan for that in advance.

I'm totally sick of all this - If something is the law then its the law for everyone and is not open to interpretation like this GGGGGRRRRR:angry: :censored:

I'm not a lot of help i'm afraid ...... but just had a look at my new(ish) reg certificate and my overnight care is still on there. So not really sure what to say regarding yours?? but something is not quite right .

Think maybe you will need to phone Ofsted again and speak to someone who can give you some definate answers, applying for a variation each time is just going to work in your situation. As you say how can you know in advance when you are going to need to provide overnight care .

Hope you get it all sorted and quickly xx

I hope when this government have finished dragging this country to its knees financially someone may take time out to see what kind of a mess the childcare system is in due to people in offices interpretering legislation how ever they feel like it - good I feel so so very very frustrated by all of this!!!!!!!!!!!!

i would ask to speak to a manager so that you can get a straight answer and TELL them you want it reinstated forthwith especially due to the nature of your work with SS.

Oh Pip you are just too brave for me - Our local Network co-ordinator (or whatever her title is these days) rang me on my mobile while I was on the land line to them so when I called her back I was still very much fuming and told her about what he had said and she went mad - and said that he woman above her who I have had dealings with in the past has regular monthy meetings with Ofsted and she will get her to bring it up at the next meeting. I'll get in touch with the other woman myself next week when I check that the other minder in the town who offers overnight care has had hers left as it on her cert.

Thanks again for all your replies - I also wonder if they are still allowing people to register to offer overnight care when they first register then if so its completely and utterly inconsistant. - but then whats new when it comes to Ofsted!!!!

Can anyone advise on what if anything you have to do to be able to provide overnight care, I have been asked by a mindees month if i can do overnight care in October, and wondered what i would have to do extra?

I did it over the phone but needed it then and there - but was really a case of telling ofsted my risk assessment, fire practice and location of smoke alarms. Also that mindee had own room and cot etc (not sure they have to but didn't ask as they did!)

The variation form for it is a risk assessment and justification I think.

I was lucky and was registered on the basis of that night's need for it for 1 under 8 on a permanent basis (reg on perm. basis not child!)

I rang Ofsted today to tell them about my eldest turning 8yrs old and he asked "Anything else we can help you with?" So I asked about emergency overnight care as my mindee's mum is due to have a baby in a couple of weeks and may need me to look after him at very short notice.
Ofsted said he could just add it on straight away, but how can they? Don't they have to re-inspect?
He said I could ring up nearer the due date and apply for it then.
Otherwise, I'll need to babysit at their house.

maybe as you're outstanding they know the care will be as it should? I would hope so (that they'd know not that you'd be caring!)

I got mine straight away and they did check my report when I was on the phone to them...
