Just wanted to put this thread down following our inspection last Thursday to let people know that an inspection can be a possitive experience and that not all inspectors are ogars!
Our inspectors arrived at 10.20 am, 2 ladies who both introduced themselves and immediately put us at our ease by having a little joke with us and reassurred us that they were only human :D We asked them to sign the visitors section in our diary and then showed them into the dinning room where we had layed out all our paper work (business folder, portfolio, polocies, Information booklet, Learning Journeys etc) we explained that contracts and medication book were in our locked cabinet. We then left them to it with the paper work, whilst we wnt to play with playdough. They spent about 45mins with the paper work and we could here them saying things like "wow look at this". I think hearing some of these comments certainly put us at ease a little. After about 30 mins Mick offered them a drink and they started asking a few questions about how much we share the paper work and our key orker system. At this point one of our mindees who is nearly 2 put his head round the door to see where Mick had gone and the inspector started playing peepo. In the end she said "its no good" put her laptopdown, got down on the floor and crawled upto mindee
After this both inspectors came into the living room and we all played a great game with a soft ball, whilst both inspectors asked us various questions. We somehow got onto the subject of variations and I told them how we had been refused a variation for 2 hours on 2 days to take a social services referal. They thought this was outrageous and granted us the variation and typed it all into the computer there and then :clapping:
We went out to play in the garden and both inspectors took it in turns to go out. They both got so excited about various things the children were saying that they wanted to put in their reports. Just as we were about to serve lunch they said they were done. I asked if I could just put the lunch on the table before they started the evaluation my insector said "it will only take a minute, look" and she turned her lap top around and I saw "outstanding" in every box, I could have cried  Mick's Inspector then did the same thing :D By 12.20 they had left. They thanked us so much for an enjoyable experience and we thanked them too.
A couple of things they said they really liked were:
Our SEF - thank you Sarah (although they did say they didn't like the Ofsted SEF and said we could write our own  )
The EYFS passports in our learning jouneys - Thank you Angel
Our Emergency contact booklet with photos kept in our cars ( I will put onther thread about these)
Our observations, which are mainly post it note snapshots and photograhs and not long lengthy written obs.
Sorry this has gone a bit, but just wanted to share our experience
