You go through the 14 national Standards and work out what fits where and how it all goes together for your portfolio, things like child protection and working wit parents - not first aid! :D

you definitely need to do a first aid course - make sure it is a paediatric 12 hour specially for childmnders one

Phone your early years team, they should be able to help.

I would ring your local CIS and ask about courses - they should have first aid laid on through the year.
We have to pay some of the cost round here... all areas are different. :D

Sorry!
Children's Information Service...
Here's Cheshire's one - I think they're all fairly similar :D

Hi, on my ICP (DHC Unit 1) this is what I did:-
Health & Safety incl Emergencies
Routines, meals, sleep/rest, outings
Childrens Development, play & activities, behaviour
Working with Parents
Equal Opportunities, Inclusion and Anti-bias practice
Child Protection
Organisation, record keeping, professional development
This is covered over 6 evenings (3hr sessions) plus an exam at the end (extra evening if you want to do the exam but not compulsory)
Contact CIS first to attend briefing session and then they will book you onto ICP. In this area you attend ICP and send off application to Ofsted (pack given to you at briefing session). Then you can book on whatever courses you feel are appropriate including First Aid.

Its all ok, have double checked. in our area, you complete a first aid course as part of it at the end.
Thank you anyway. xxx
