I'm expecting my first inspection at any time (been registered 6 months in 2 weeks time) and I had a call about 3 weeks ago asking which days I mind under 5's.
The man on the phone said my inspection should be within the next month but I've not heard anything. Another childminder told me today that they don't phone first and will just turn up - is this right?
I thought from reading posts on here they phone and give an idea but not the specific day - now I'm confused!

I would think they would want to otherwise they don't know which days you are in are in and it would be a waste of travel time for them.
I think on childminder on here didn't get notice but nearly all of us have. I wouldn't worry they will ring soon and check which days your in. You may be lucky and get a date and time like I did :)

Thanks.
If they just turn up I've haven't got anything to hide except a mess in the bedrooms upstairs! (plan to sort this weekend so I was concerned she may arrive today - these are not registered rooms but it'll be just my luck that that she'll want to go in those as well  ).
Like you, I thought they did phone first in case of a wasted journey. I know if there's a complaint they can just turn up but obviously that's different.
Oh well, I'll keep waiting for the phone call and getting more and more nervous!

I've never know anyone not get notice for their inspection.
I suppose it could happen, but everyone I know has always had notice, even if it is just a day.

My inspector told me at the begining she would come on the 9th,10th or 12th March. Then rang back to say she can't come on the 9th  She had already made her mind up that it will be a Tuesday as when I told her what days I would be available, she picked a Tuesday again.
At least it will be over by the begining of a week :)

That was your phonecall - from the call you know it'll be in the next month...CM's only get a phonecall, as we normally spent quite a bit of time out, they would waste a lot of time IYSWIM...if you have a conmplaint made against you then they do just turn up - hence the saying always work each day as if OFSTED will knoick on the door!:)

He didn't just tell me it would be in the next month. I was worried they would come the following week which was half-term and I had a trip to the new soft play centre planned for the Tuesday, so I asked him if it could be as early as next week? He said "No, but it will be in the next month".
Well the next month only leaves next week, so I'll be busy, busy, busy this weekend making sure house and paperwork are up to scratch in case I don't get a phone call.

Hi Cazz
I have been registered for just over 6 months now. I had a call to ask if I had any mindees and what days etc. then a few weeks later I had a call from them saying I was due an inspection, they asked basically when I was 'not' available and said the visit would be in 'the next few weeks' one of the weeks was half term and she did say she would not call then. They seem to give at least one weeks notice. I blitz the registered rooms (in other words stuck all my junk in my bed room!! I shut all doors upstairs of un registered rooms & left the others open). I got a good, reading your posts, you'll do at least that, and if you have done your SEF it should be a short visit.

On my last inspection she gave me one of three dates that it would be, it was the very last one!
They would have to give you some notice to make sure that you are going to be there.
The only way they would make an unannounced visit is if they had received a complaint that they have follow up on.
Good luck xx
