Just wondering if anyone on here had an inspection when they did not have any EYFS kids, all mine are over 5 and I'm not likely to have any younger children till at least September when a sibling of one of my mindees is starting and she will be 4 (although full time school) and 3 afternoons a week.
So I have no experience of minding babies really (apart from my own 3 kids) as for the last few years they have all been older.
I don't want it to go against me and I do keep as up to date as I can on the EYFS but if I get asked lots of questions I don't think I will be able to answer much as all my spare time is spent planning and sorting activities for the children that I do have.
Also do I still to a SEF as this is based on EYFS.

Hiya
If you have no children in the EYFS age then tell Ofsted that when they ring you about your inspection. They will not inspect you if you have no little ones, but if you do start to look after little ones then you will need to let them know so that you can be inspected.
Hope that helps x

I'll be interested in the outcome of this thread.
I'm currently considering giving up on the EYFS age group and just minding before and after school and holidays only.

I would have thought that they would still inspect you on the childcare register though?

no, if you do not look after EYFS age children then you sort of get your name picked out of a hat for when you get inspected ( inspectors own words!!)
Ofsted are only interested in the EYFS! x

I had the call and because they were all over 6 I was told they would not inspect me until I have EYFS children on roll and I was to ring and tell them when I do. I received a letter in the post a few weeks later to say I had 3yrs to sign an early years child and be inspected or I will be taken off the early years register and can only mind older children.
I recently signed a 4yr old in full time education and only have him for 2hrs a week and they are coming to inspect me tomorrow :panic:

Good luck with your inspection :) I've just submited my half completed SEF and I'm waiting for the call...back. Mrs O rang me last week, but I think she was just kicking me up the backside :D

I only look after school-aged children (in yrs 1-6 at school) so I recently phoned Ofsted and had my name taken off the Early Years Register. I'm now on the Voluntary part (for those 8 and over) and on the Compulsory part of the Childcare Register (for those aged 5-7).
I'm due an inspection in June 2011 - do you think I'll get one ?

im sure ofsted will come out and inspect you but it will be for the older childcare register. as you are taking on lo i would of thought you would be better ringing and seeing if they will come later. my friend had hers without lo she did what she could paper etc then came back the week later to do eyfs and observe her. she said it was less stressful but do you want her twice???

Mrs O ran a while back, when I didnt have any EYFS and she said to let them know when I did get some. I asked what would happen if none came along in the near future and she said I would be inspected without. I had lots of over 8's at the time.
Personally I would have wanted to keep registered to take EYFS when they turned up.
