I posted a thread here (http://www.childmindinghelp.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?t=50693) a couple of weeks ago and I'm STILL waiting for Ofsted. I've been on edge now for 6 days waiting and it could still be either tomorrow or Thursday!
My Dad died on Sunday after being in hospital for 7 weeks and as if that isn't enough stress, Ofsted are keeping me hanging on waiting for my inspection. I'm really upset and have thought about complaining, but I just want it over and done with now.
I'm sorry for rambling on but I just need some sympathy :crying:

So sorry to hear about your dad and all the other stressful things you've got going on at the moment.
Think I would be tempted to give Ofsted a call and see if it can be delayed under the circumstances or if a definite date can be booked so you know what's happening.
Big hugs to you.

Really sorry to hear about your dad, i think if i were you I would ring ofsted and see if they can give you an idea when they are coming as obviously now you have a few things to be sorting out, or if you want ask for it to be delayed, say that you are taking a little while off as this coincides with a mindee holiday or something.

If I were you I would send a fax to Osfted with a copy of your fathers death certificate - they cannot be so cruel as to expect you to wait in and undergo an inspection at a time like this your family need you and you (meaning you and your entire family) have a lot to do at the moment so I think you need to get rid of this stress mine was due in March '08 but they didn't come till April - this is something out of your control - if they ignore you I'd get in touch with my local MP and get them to write to them on your own behalf.
We are not nurseries so we don't have anyone to take over the helm at a time like this - we just have to keep on working and that is difficult enough without having to undergo an inspection.

They were very understanding when my dad was ill and they had messed up some paper work. They sorted it very quickly as they said i had enough to cope with.
I did say a big thank you to them.
They will understand and reschedule for you. You dont want an inspection at the moment it is enougth just to keep on working.
Sending big hugs xxx

I echo everyone else, give Ofsted a ring, you dont need the added stress at this time and am sure they will be understanding.
I know before they said they couldnt delay it, but circumstances are different now and they cant delay, the least they can do is give you a firm day they will come. You have nothing to lose, give them a ring.

Wend i dont for one moment think they will insist you are inspected to have a stranger in your home putting you under pressure 3 or 4 days after you have lost your dad.
It just would not happen. I dont htink they are that heartless.
PM me and i will do it for you no problem if you cannot face them.

So sorry to hear your news. As everyone has suggested I would ring them. They phoned me back in Oct when my DH had just come out of hospital and I said I would rather delay it, they said ok we will get back to you in a few weeks and guess what.....I'm still waiting

So sorry to hear about your dad.
I would call Ofsted and ask them to postpone the inspection.
I was given 3 dates of possible inspections by Ofsted. The day before the first date, my father in law had a stroke. I called Ofsted, who were fantastic.
The inspector gave me a call back and said that she was planning to come and see me the next day but would leave it until one of the other two dates that she had given me and wished my father in law a speedy recovery.
Sending you a hug x

So sorry to hear your news. I lost my dad in June last year and the day after he died Mrs O phoned to arrange an inspection. When I explained, she gave me a month before she got back in touch.
Please phone them, put it off and give yourself time to grieve for your dad xxx

So sorry to hear about your dad, Wendy.
I'm sure if you contacted the inspector and explained they would delay your inspection. You have enough to cope with at this sad time

Just to let you all know, I've tried to ring Ofsted this morning but they can't get in touch with my inspector so there's not much they can do atm.
Both babies now screaming cos I left them while I made the call so i'm off to toddler group with them in a few minutes

Having an awful day..... one baby screaming (she's very clingy!) other new mindee (12 months) is copying and not a word from Ofsted! Have decided to take next week off to give myself time to grieve and to support my own children. I'm also thinking of giving notice to my screaming mindee - I don't know how much more I can take!

I'm really sorry to hear about your dad, it must be really hard for you, trying to keep strong for your children and the rest of your family must be really hard. It's a good idea to take time off and let yourself grieve properly. I hope Ofsted get hold of the inspector for you and try and aleviate some of the pressure. Hope everything sorts itself out.

Sending you a hug. I think taking some time out is what you need. Get in touch with Ofsted and tell them you are taking some time off under the circumstances and could they ring you in a couple of weeks, to make sure you are up and running again. That will give you some time to get your head together.
Take care of yourself xxxx

Ofsted inspector finally rang me at 4pm today to say she was sorry about my Dad and they'd defer the inspection for a while. I can't believe that after I told her he was dying and she said they still had to come to carry out the inspection, she left me anxiously waiting every day for 7 days!
I've also told my parents that I'll be taking next week off so that I can spend some time with my own children and try to come to terms with what's happened.
Thanks for everyones support and kind words....it really is reassuring to know that I have people who care on this forum

Good on you for taking next week off, we lost mil and sent kids home when we found out at lunchtime and only took the next day off and then one day 10 days later for the funeral because we had parents who 'could not' get anyone else!
We were only having the discussion today 14 months on about having made a mistake, and we should have taken longer and thought of ourselves not the others. I dont think a week of would have been a magical cure all but i really think we did it wrong.

I thought I'd be OK working the day after Dad died, but I've got worse as the week's gone on. I did feel really guilty telling the parents but why should I? I need time to grieve.

I a sorry to hear about your dad, and am glad you have sorted things out with Ofsted, and decided to take time off. We all hate letting parents down, but at the end of the day we have to think of OUR families, and to be honest most parents wouldn't give us a thought if the boot were on the other foot!!!!!
