Hi Everyone...not sure if I should write this here or under policies & procedures ....Sorry if in the wrong section.

Anyway I had my inspection (first -) just over a week ago, and my report came through today ( pretty chuffed got Good in all areas...and for those who read my previous thread about my inspection the report is written on how she observed me with my own child - whom I class as a 'mindee' and do all the relevant paperwork for him that I do for all my other mindees). Anyway, having just read it I know Mrs O mentioned at my inspection that I was missing information on my safeguarding policy and that she had to make a note of this in my report.

Reading my report and under the section 'Steps to be taken to improve provision further' it states...Ensure the written safeguarding procedure reflects practice and the current Local Safeguarding Children Board advice on referral and recording concerns'

My question being that I have my Safeguarding policy and then overleaf in the same pocket I have a couple of leaflets 'Recognition & Referral of Possible Child Abuse' This leaflet is produced my my Local Safeguarding Children Board' Is this not ok or do I need to write it in my policy as well. This information is in my portfolio which is accessible to parents at all times?

A little confused. Thought I understood what she meant until I have looked into it further. Advice please???

I think your safeguarding policy may not be broad enough and contain all the relevant referal information as in the leaflet. Its good that you have the leaflets etc but your policy should state ALL the relevant information in such a way as to show that you understand what needs to be done in a given situation. I could be wrong as i obviously havenlt seen it but i am sure that Sarah will be along soon to advise you further.

I have a copy of my safeguarding policy which i can send to you by email if you pm me - it has been passed by early years as ok.

Your safeguarding procedure must actually state that you will contact the Local Safeguarding Children board if you have a concern...

and it must state the phone number for the LSCB

and it must state the steps you will take eg writing things down, not leading the child, informing parents if concerned etc.

you must also state what you would do if an allegation was made against you or your family.

sorry it's not enough to have the leaflet in the wallet... it must be actually written as well.

Hth :D
