Hello there
I have had a busy and confusing day and I am so fed up with Ofsted!
Mid September was my inspection week, stayed in all week and they didn't show, not even a call.
Well, 2 weeks ago a new inspector called and we arranged a new date for Mon, Tues, Wed or Thurs next week, any morning. Fine, ready or not now!
Anyway, I have this week off and this morning one of my families called to say they would prob not be in next week as the children have Swine Flu (this is my only family on Mon and Tues) So no children for the inspector!!!
I called Ofsted this morning, explained and he said they would not inspect with no children present (this is my first inspection) and he would get the inspector to call me today.
Well by 5.15pm nothing from her so I called again and this time they got through to her and she told them to tell me she was aware of the situation and he could not give me anymore info.
So.....do I make the most of my unexpected days off and take my son to school, have a hair cut, go shopping etc etc lovely day off things to do or do I stay in on Monday and Tuesday,....just in case!!!!
I'm confused, which person do I listen to ?
Thanks guys....worried now and I was quite calm

Take advantage of the unexpected time off. You've told them the situation and they have confirmed they are aware of the matter. If someone comes out and you are not in it's not your fault is it!

I agree :) Good luck for when they do show though!

Ooooh I'm glad you said that.
The first guy said she will not inspect with no children, but then you read otherwise on here sometimes.
My gut instinct, after talking with the second guy who actually spoke to Mrs Ofsted , is that she was planning on Wed or Thurs anyway as he said he could not confirm either way what she was doing!!!!
Maybe a couple of days off then...???

I was due an inspection and I told the inspector I didn't know if the children would be there as they are siblings and 1 was sent home with suspected swine flu and was told they couldn't come anyway for at least 4 weeks due the risk of swine flu being in the house.

That's really interesting because there was no mention of that at all. Maybe she will call me on Monday and tell me that.
I wonder what the inspectors own guidelines are re: Swine flu??? after all they visit lots of settings that have, no doubt had cases.
I will ask when I eventually get to speak to an inspector and report back!
Well, I am planning to take my son to school on Monday and carry on my day from there, not going straight home so they can call me if they turn up on Mon and Tues and I'm not there.
I wish all Ofsted inspectors would work to the same guidelines!

You shouldn't stay in unless the inspector tells you to!
I always ask them what time of day they will come and have always been told.
enjoy your time off! :D

Originally, weeks ago the Inspector told me she would be there before 10am on Mon, Tues, Wed , Thurs. As a result of my reporting the Swine Flu cases to Ofsted and the fact I will have no children on two of the days the inspector is due to visit, the guy on the Ofsted helpline said they will not visit if I have no children.
The inspector hasn't spoken to me at all re: The Swine flu report but told another helpline person (2nd call) she is aware of the situation .
Trying to decide whether to risk it and actually make the most of a rare long weekend and go to visit my family in Cornwall for few days.....mmmm decisions.
Thanks Sarah x

Cornwall or Ofsted?? hmm let me think. CORNWALL.:happy banana: :happy banana: :D
when ofsted rang me for my first inspection i didn't have kids here, when she rang a few weeks later i was told they'd inspect wether i had kids here or not cos it HAD to be done, luckily i did have a mindee here,
they can and will do inspections without mindees there if they have to, but i have been told it does effect your grading :(

They cancelled!!!!!!!!!
Cannot believe it but on Thursday the inspector called to say she was cancelling as she has had her job changed and no longer is coming out to me. Had quite a chat with her about how I just want it over and she said it will be unlikely that it will be this side or Christmas....grrrrrr
Just want it done now but she said I was low priority! Oh well.
Thanks for all the advice you have all been giving to me...one day I will have my first inspection...lol

Okay....an update on my never ending inspection saga.
After they cancelled they called last week to say they were coming the week of 14th December. I tried to get Mrs Ofsted to change this date as it is the week of school plays, toddler group parties, Polish Christmas party (I look after a Polish child) , school recital at my son's school that he is in.
Well she said the only time she could change it to is the week between Xmas and New Year but I am not working as have no children. She said it has to be done this year!
So, all my children are either going to miss their siblings in plays, miss parties and I am going to miss my son's assembly and nevermind the continuity and working with schools etc
Ofsted want us to do all this but only when it suits them!!!
(rant over!!!)

There has been a shake up in ofsted and they have now got 100 new inspectors 50 for reinspection of settings who got inadequate and satisfactory and 50 for something else.
When at the childrens centre this morning one minder who was not due her inspection until Sept next (Ofsted said July) got a call to come and do her inspection this week - she was graded Good at her last inspection - then another minder who was graded Outstanding and isn't due an inspection till Sept said she got a message on her house phone to say they were trying to contact her - there is something going on. The first minder was told that they are trying to get to see us all in under 3 years so it will be closer to 2-2.5years -
Why can't they leave minders alone at this time of year and concentrate on nurseries and playgroups they stay within their settings for nativity plays and parites etc and the children don't have to miss out. I think they should have to tag along if there is something special on when they want to visit!!!! A few spilt drinks and a bit of cake in their hair mixed with bogies would soon put a stop to their gallop. I'm sure their are lots of other jobs they could be doing at this time of year!!!
