I asked for a variation to have 4 under 5's as one of my parents is on shift and I never know from 1 month to the next when I am needed.
After speaking to a lovely lady at Ofsted she has agreed that from 8am-6pm Monday-Friday I can have 4 under 5's and when I have my assistant I can have 9 under 8's with a maximum of 6 in the Early Years Register.
Now I don't have to let anyone down for work outside of my registration.

Brilliant :D
Is the variation for a named child, or does it cover you when you take on any child?
I currently keep a Thursday space free for a shift worker, but only have the child perhaps once every couple of months. It means I haven't been able to take anyone else on for that Thursday space just incase I'm needed.
I wondered if I would get a variation, so I could take on someone new & only go over my numbers every now & again.

I never go over my numbers or my insurance is void.
I haven't got the certificate yet but expect it to say 4 under 5's as per letter dated ....
If I was you I would look at taking on a new one on a Thursday and ask for the overlap then.

I worded that badly. I didn't mean go over my numbers, I meant have a variation so on those days I could go over the usual numbers as I'd have permission to have an extra child.
I still don't know if I worded that properly, but I know what I mean!
I think I will try taking on a new child & then asking for a variation. It seems the best way round it.
