The Kathy Robinson WOW books are great, they show positive images of Deaf children who sign, use a hearing dog, etc.

Thanks for that tip Chelle - I'll go have a browse on play.com
The children do enjoy 'Danny the Guide Dog' and I've got lots of stuff from here - http://www.hearingdogs.org.uk/
(I was an audiologist in a former life!)

I didn't know you were an audiologist.
I have some info about WOW here (http://www.chelltune.co.uk/signing_learn_more.php?osCsid=344b4061c9ffee51ef40 6b022d669e2c).
Do you know which of the Child's Play books features images of disabled children? I plan to get hold of it next time I order stock. It features various images including a child with a cochlear implant and one with hearing aids.

I was just having a look around the child's play website and found some excellent online illustrated stories - wheelchairs, autism, visual impairment etc... Couldn't see anything on hearing impairment - I'd be interested to know more though if you find them
www.childs-play.com
Yes I trained as an educational audiologist in Manchester back in the days when signing was out of fashion and every child had to learn how to speak or else! It was an interesting course, 4 years long and I taught for a year before going into the heady world of computing - more money and a company car... fickle or what!

I found some info here (http://www.childreninthepicture.org.uk/champions_bookworld.htm).
I've not searched through the book yet but I think it is this (http://www.chelltune.co.uk/product_info.php?cPath=39&products_id=43) one that contains an image of child wearing a leg splint. I'll flick through it tomorrow to see if there are others.

FAB LIST THANKS!
I have a Topsy and Tim book- Topsy and Tim Make a new friend
(wheelchair user), as well as don't call me special, and a few Balamory ones, one of which is called Buggies and Prams which centers around Penny(wheelchair user) helping on an outing with mums and tots.
I have a Balamory play set and Little tykes bus with people and a wheelchair.
some of my small world figures wear glasses.
What about a pair of childrens sunglasses without the lenses in for dressing up box?
Educational catalogues such as Galt, Hope, Rompa show figures promoting disabilities and different cultures in a positive light, they are very expensive for what they are. What about sending for the catalogues and using the pics as part of a collage?
Something Special programme from cbeebies is great! You could record a few programmes. The website is fab, has some printable signs/symbols which I have made a book from

Sound bingo could be good for encouraging children to think about sounds, you could even collect your own sounds using a dictaphone or tape recorder.

Thanks for these ideas. I was then going to ask what types of things I can have. At the mo I only have happy street/little people from elc showing showing glasses and little boy in a wheel chair. I do have a teddy who has a broken leg and is on crutches. I just needed a few ideas so these are great..... thank you. x

This thread gave me some great ideas and made me think about what I had and ideas of things I can buy. So..... yesterday I bought 5 Balamory books from ebay, Balamory dvd, 'Don't call me special ' book and the Topsy and Tim have a new friend book. I only spent about £12 but will have a nice collection of a few things. Last week I also got the Happy Land people with a little person in a wheelchair. I have plans for a poster too.
Thank you x
