No mention of the three hand washing signs in my bathroom, never looked in one single one of my 30 toy boxes! none of my books, any of my multi cultural things in most boxes and also the toys "JUST IN THERE" that promote disabilities - gutted just gutted! and the fact that someone i know got the same grade as me and has no where near the things i have and do - its gutting !

Sorry bit of a write and run..........
Please don't be gutted because it's an excellent report and you should be proud of it. Unfortunately the grading system ofsted use doesn't always reflect the amount of effort we have made and so it can be disheartening.
CONGRATULATIONS you can now relax and enjoy playing with the children.

I think its a great report. I understand what you mean about some of the things that you have worked hard on are not mentioned but it was the same with mine. Lots of things were discussed with the inspector which didn't necessarily get mentioned in the report but you can rest assured that they will be in the notes the inspector made which would have made the basis for the report. They can't mention everything.
Well done on getting a good grading - I would have been more than happy with that even after ten years of minding.

Oh it all a load of B***** - as far as I'm concerned we are all outstanding so there. Satisfactory means we do wha is required so in my book that makes you a good childminder - so good must mean we are brilliant and Outstanding means you are a brilliant childminder with ****** brilliant paperwork or a plumbed in water filter or something - the more we all do to attain outstanding the further they move the goal posts so now we all grow veggies etc that is no longer something over and above the average so it wouldn't make us outstanding - do you see what I mean - they are looking for something in you that sets you apart from all the good minders - who on my scale are actually brilliant. Don't worry about it you are doing a great job and that is all that matters.

I think this is an excellent report for your first inspection. I think you're being too hard on yourself and should be proud of what you've achieved. Well done:clapping: :clapping:

If this is your first report then you should be well and truly proud, we all get disheartened at times with Mr O. Seems so unfair when you work so hard and someone else dosnt seem to do as much as you and gets the same grade. Unfortunately Mrs O has no continuity, which does seem very unfair. BUT what the hey, you did well, so be proud, you know what you do and so do you parents. :clapping: :clapping:

It is a very good report, but I know how you feel as I initially felt the same about mine. It was a good report, but didn't mention things that I was particularly proud of (eg. the children spontaneously speaking french words that I had taught them.)
In all fairness to Ofsted, they are limited on the amount they can write, the things they have to comment on & the things they are looking out for.
Everything you've mentioned will more than likely be stored in their records, but isn't individually mentioned on your report. ie. the fact that you have handwashing posters will be covered when they say something like 'promotes good hygiene practices' and the fact that you care for children from different cultures/backgrounds will be covered by saying that you meet individual needs.
Read a few reports online & you'll see that a lot of them are very similar and often a but vague. Be proud of yours!!

I think it reads really well and that the parents who choose you generally do not put all their faith in an ofsted report.
They write a lot less now than they used to and this stops them sometimes putting down all of the positives.
You should still be really proud!

I've read your report all the way through. I thought it sounded excellent.
The Ofsted inspector told me they were only allowed to make the report 2 pages long these days.
I think each sentence that they write means a lot - individual needs of each child - to me I would read a lot into that for example.
I have been Childminding 6 or 7 years - can't remember lol and today I received my first Good - so you getting a Good on the first go really is fantastic.

Heh don't be dissapointed if I could obtain a report like yours I would be thrilled, your place sounds much better than mine you are doing a fantastic job, at the end of the day it does'nt matter what grade a bit of paper says you and you parents know how good you are!!! I just think its a shame that we all are expected to turn our homes into a nursery now!!!

You did really well. I know the feeling of disappointment though, because you put your heart and soul, hard work into your setting and when ofsted come they don't look at everything only paperwork. I looked after a child who had severe allergies, he was muslim and only ate halal foods, also a child with Downs Syndrome but no mention of any of this on my report, it just said i had an inclusive practice.
Don't feel down about it, I think it is a very good report x

The grading system is unfair, everyone knows that. The most important things to make sure you get right are 1) The children are happy and love coming to your house 2) The parents are happy and likewise they don't mess you around with payments and 3)You don't have any complaints.
They are the 3 (Holy Grails) :)

this is the sad thing with this system. The inconsistencies of the grading/inspectors etc. The most important thing to remember is are the children happy in your setting - YES. Are the parents happy with their childrens care - YES. Do you take pride in what you do - YES obviously. Then stuff the lot of them - continue doing what you are doing - how could one person make a true judgement based on one visit? GOOD IS GOOD now enjoy your job for the next 3 years!!
I agree with the others, you have a Fab report!! Well done:clapping: :clapping: :clapping: Relax and enjoy the children and keep up the good work.

I didn't get to read your report. You have a spooky link. Yesterday it took me to a complaint (not yours) and this morning to a playscheme report.
Anyway, sounds like those who have read it all agree it is fab.
I actually sobbed yesterday and felt like giving it all up when a local minder got outstanding in all areas. I like her and she is honest but freely admits she doesn't believe in sitting and playing with kids (she plans and provides then lets them get on with it), she tells parents 'these are my policies for ofsted but I don't do any of that' and who asked to borrow resources for her inspection that's she's never used before. Then I know a lot of minders who do loads of planning and interaction with the children but are not great with paperwork and have got satisfactory.
Still that's better than those minders who pretend to parents they do stuff and then don't!
I felt like what's the point of the extra hours and paperwork and you get an inspector who can be bluffed by someone pretending to do what they ought.
The system is flawed. Life ain't fair - as they say. I'm still gutted today but am trying to convince myself that it's not just about the ofsted report but to us that's our main form of external assessment so it's hard not to see it as important.

ps when your report comes through you have the right to ring about any content of the report (within 5 days). If you feel there is something of note worth mentioning then you can always ring to discuss it!
I wish I had with my garden provision - she only linked it to physical development and I have all areas covered but I never thought to phone within the time limit
